Understanding the Importance of Accessible Washroom Solutions

Accessible washroom solutions typically include features such as wider doorways to accommodate wheelchairs and grab bars for support. They also include accessible sinks, toilets, and hand dryers at appropriate heights. This also means adequate space for maneuvering.

The importance of accessible restroom solutions cannot be overstated for several reasons:

  • Inclusivity: Accessible restrooms ensure that everyone, regardless of their physical abilities, can access and use restroom facilities independently. This promotes inclusivity and equal participation in public spaces.
  • Safety and Comfort: For individuals with disabilities, navigating a standard restroom can be challenging and even hazardous. Accessible features such as grab bars and non-slip floors provide safety and stability, while appropriate spacing allows for comfortable maneuvering.
  • Legal Compliance: Many countries have laws and regulations mandating the provision of accessible facilities in public buildings. Compliance with these regulations is essential to avoid discrimination against people with disabilities.

Accessible solutions are more than just a set of features in restroom facilities; they are a testament to inclusivity, safety, and social responsibility. Let’s delve deeper into why these solutions are essential and how they benefit individuals and businesses alike.

Promoting Inclusivity

One of the primary reasons for implementing accessible washroom solutions is to promote inclusivity. These solutions ensure that individuals with disabilities can access and use restroom facilities independently, without facing barriers. Features such as wider doorways, grab bars, and appropriately positioned amenities cater to a diverse range of needs. This helps foster a sense of inclusion in public spaces.

Wider Doorways and Spacious Layouts

Accessible washrooms often feature wider doorways and more spacious layouts to accommodate wheelchairs and mobility aids. This design ensures that individuals with mobility impairments can enter and navigate the restroom with ease, without feeling constrained or restricted by narrow passages. By providing ample space for maneuvering, accessible washrooms promote inclusivity by removing physical barriers and enabling individuals of all abilities to access the facilities independently.

Height-Adjustable Amenities

Another example of how accessible solutions promote inclusivity is through the inclusion of height-adjustable amenities such as sinks, toilets, and hand dryers. These amenities can be positioned at varying heights to accommodate individuals of different statures and mobility levels. For instance, individuals who use wheelchairs may require lower sink heights for easier access, while taller individuals may benefit from higher toilet seats. By offering height-adjustable amenities, accessible washrooms cater to the diverse needs of users, ensuring that everyone can comfortably and conveniently use the facilities, regardless of their physical abilities.

Accessible Washroom Solutions Also Prioritize Safety and Comfort

Navigating standard restroom facilities can pose challenges for individuals with disabilities, potentially compromising their safety and comfort. Accessible solutions address these concerns by incorporating features like non-slip floors, grab bars for support, and ample maneuvering space. These elements not only enhance safety but also contribute to a more comfortable restroom experience for all users.

Grab Bars and Supportive Fixtures

Accessible washrooms are equipped with grab bars strategically placed near toilets, sinks, and showers to provide stability and support for individuals with mobility impairments. These grab bars offer a secure handhold, allowing users to maintain their balance while transferring to and from toilet seats or maneuvering around the restroom. By providing support where needed, accessible washrooms enhance safety and instill confidence in users, reducing the risk of slips, falls, and other accidents. Additionally, these supportive fixtures contribute to the overall comfort of users, ensuring that they feel secure and at ease while using the facilities.

Non-Slip Flooring and Anti-Scald Features

Another way accessible washroom solutions prioritize safety and comfort is by incorporating non-slip flooring and anti-scald features. Non-slip flooring materials, such as textured tiles or slip-resistant coatings, minimize the risk of slips and falls, especially in wet environments like shower areas. Additionally, anti-scald features in faucets and showers regulate water temperature to prevent accidental burns, particularly important for individuals with sensory impairments or reduced mobility who may have difficulty adjusting water controls. By implementing these safety measures, accessible washrooms create a safer and more comfortable environment for all users, ensuring that their restroom experience is free from hazards and discomfort.

Ensuring Legal Compliance

Compliance with accessibility laws and regulations is not just a moral imperative but also a legal requirement for businesses and organizations. Many countries have specific mandates regarding the provision of accessible facilities in public buildings. By implementing accessible solutions, businesses can avoid legal repercussions and demonstrate their commitment to meeting regulatory standards.

Adherence to Accessibility Standards with Accessibility Washroom Solutions

Accessible solutions are designed and implemented following established accessibility standards and regulations, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in the United States or similar legislation in other countries. These standards specify requirements for elements like door widths, maneuvering space, grab bar placement, and fixture heights to ensure that restroom facilities are accessible to individuals with disabilities. By following these guidelines, businesses and organizations demonstrate their commitment to compliance with legal requirements, reducing the risk of penalties or lawsuits related to accessibility violations.

Regular Inspections and Maintenance

Another way accessible washroom solutions aid in ensuring legal compliance is through regular inspections and maintenance protocols. Businesses and property owners are often required by law to maintain accessible facilities in proper working condition and address any issues promptly. This includes ensuring that grab bars are securely mounted, door mechanisms function correctly, and amenities remain accessible to users. By implementing routine inspections and maintenance procedures, businesses can demonstrate diligence in upholding legal standards for accessibility, mitigating the risk of non-compliance and associated legal consequences.

Ready to Implement Accessible Washroom Solutions?

Accessible washroom solutions are not just a necessity; they are a cornerstone of inclusive design and social progress. By prioritizing accessibility in restroom facilities, businesses and organizations can create environments that are safe, welcoming, and empowering for individuals of all abilities.

Simplifying Universal Commercial Restroom Design

Universal commercial washroom design is a big term that focuses on a small principle. It refers to creating restroom facilities that are accessible and usable by everyone. This means people of all ages, sizes, abilities, and disabilities. It involves incorporating features such as grab bars, wide doorways, accessible sinks, and spacious stalls. Following this design approach, you can guarantee:

  • Inclusivity: It ensures that everyone, regardless of their physical abilities, can use the facilities comfortably and independently.
  • Compliance: Universal design helps businesses comply with accessibility regulations and avoid discrimination lawsuits.
  • Customer Satisfaction: It enhances the overall customer experience by accommodating a diverse range of users.
  • Safety: Universally designed washrooms reduce the risk of accidents and injuries, promoting safety for all users.

First, let’s dive a little deeper into each of these concepts. Then, we’ll look at some examples of restroom fixtures that follow universal design.

Inclusivity and Universal Commercial Restroom Design

When it comes to commercial restroom design, universal considerations stand as a beacon of inclusivity. Simply put, they address the diverse needs of all individuals.

By embracing gender neutrality, these facilities transcend traditional barriers. Efficiency is also paramount in these designs, as they meticulously optimize space and usability. Not to mention they uphold accessibility. Accessibility lies at their core, with features meticulously crafted to accommodate individuals with disabilities. And last, these commercial restroom designs integrate features like universal changing tables. This might sound nonconsequential, but they extend dignity and support to caregivers and individuals with disabilities.

All of these nurture positive community relations and reinforce the ethos of inclusivity. Let’s break them down a little further.

  • Gender Neutrality: Providing single-stall, gender-neutral facilities accommodates individuals of all gender identities and disabilities, ensuring privacy and accessibility.
  • Efficiency: Inclusive designs reduce wait times by optimizing space and ensuring each stall is usable by everyone, enhancing efficiency for all users.
  • Accessibility: Features like wheelchair clearance around sinks and accessible amenities ensure that individuals with disabilities can use the restroom comfortably.
  • Dignity: Facilities equipped with universal changing tables offer dignified access to caregivers and individuals with disabilities, fostering positive community relations.

Making Compliance Easy

Universal commercial restroom design aids in compliance by integrating features that adhere to accessibility standards and regulations. These include features outlined in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

These designs go beyond mere compliance. Rather, they embody empathy and respect to create spaces that accommodate individuals of all abilities. By incorporating universal design elements like non-slip flooring, wheelchair-accessible features, and adequate space for maneuverability, commercial restrooms become safer and more comfortable for all users. Moreover, universal design principles ensure that restrooms meet legal requirements while enhancing inclusivity and customer satisfaction.

Here are some easy examples of what we mean:

  • Accessible Layout: Universal restroom design ensures ample space for maneuverability, allowing individuals with disabilities to navigate comfortably.
  • Door Accessibility: Designing doors with sufficient clearance ensures ease of access for wheelchair users.
  • Automated Equipment: Installing automated sinks, hand dryers, and soap dispensers enhances accessibility for individuals with limited dexterity.
  • Inclusive Design: Embracing inclusive design principles fosters a welcoming environment for all users, transcending mere compliance.

What About Customer Satisfaction

Universal design significantly impacts customer satisfaction. It accommodates diverse needs, creating inclusive and welcoming environments.

Features like touchless fixtures and easy-to-clean surfaces enhance cleanliness perceptions, boosting patron confidence and satisfaction. Well-designed restrooms positively influence facility perception and quality. Businesses can measure satisfaction metrics to guide future improvements, enhancing customer loyalty.

In essence, universal commercial restroom design fosters positive impressions and satisfaction, vital for business success. Here’s a further breakdown of how:

  • Inclusivity: Universal design ensures that restrooms cater to the needs of diverse users. This includes individuals with disabilities, elderly patrons, and caregivers.
  • Enhanced Cleanliness: Features like touchless fixtures and easy-to-clean surfaces improve hygiene and cleanliness perceptions, positively impacting customer satisfaction.
  • Customer Perception: Well-designed and maintained restrooms reflect positively a facility’s image, influencing customers’ overall perception of the establishment.
  • ROI Measurement: Quantifying customer satisfaction regarding restroom usability and cleanliness allows businesses to measure the return on investment of design changes.

The Safety Behind Universal Commercial Restroom Design

Universal design prioritizes safety by incorporating accessibility features like grab bars and non-slip surfaces. Other features include clear signage for navigation, touchless fixtures for hygiene, and adherence to safety regulations such as ADA guidelines.

These measures create a safer environment for all users, including those with mobility challenges, while reducing the risk of accidents and promoting inclusivity:

  • Accessibility Features: Incorporating grab bars, non-slip surfaces, and wider doorways to accommodate individuals with mobility challenges, reducing the risk of injuries.
  • Clear Signage: Implementing clear signage and wayfinding aids to assist users in navigating the space safely, reducing confusion and potential accidents.
  • Hygiene Measures: Integrating touchless fixtures such as sensor-activated faucets and soap dispensers to minimize contact with surfaces, promoting hygiene.
  • Adherence to Regulations: Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and standards such as ADA guidelines, creating a safer environment for all users.

What American Specialties, Inc. has Done

Amongst all of these—inclusivity, compliance, customer satisfaction, and safety—there’s a common theme. Universal features.

The right features in your commercial restroom can make universal design the easiest thing you’ve ever done or the hardest. Otherwise, inclusivity, compliance, customer satisfaction, and safety will be out of reach. So, what do you look for in the right features?

Look for a company that designs and manufactures everything in-house. A company like American Specialties, Inc. Here are just a few examples of what they’ve done to make your job easier:

  • Grab Bars: Installing sturdy grab bars near toilets and sinks to assist individuals with mobility challenges in safely maneuvering around the restroom.

  • Baby changing stations: Providing a safe and hygienic space for parents and caregivers to attend to the needs of infants and toddlers, preventing accidents and discomfort.

The Commonly Overlooked Commercial Toilet Accessories That Can Elevate a Business

In the meticulous world of commercial restroom design, it’s often the smallest commercial toilet accessories that make the biggest impact on user experience. Beyond the obvious fixtures like toilets, sinks, and soap dispensers, a suite of accessories stands poised to enhance functionality, hygiene, and accessibility. And they’re all at your disposal.

Let’s explore the role played by these often-overlooked restroom essentials. Then we’ll get into the five big benefits they can bring to your business:

  1. Enhanced customer experience
  2. Improved hygiene standards
  3. Brand reputation and image
  4. Inclusivity and accessibility
  5. And employee satisfaction

And a bonus sixth we’ll get into later. For now, let’s go through the ten most easily forgotten accessories every business should include in their commercial restroom design.

The Five Most Commonly Overlooked Commercial Toilet Accessories

And it’s not just that they’re so easily overlooked. Rather, it’s that they’re not given the proper attention and care they deserve in the restroom’s design process. They’re usually just tacked-on additions. Nothing more. However, putting some intentionality and thought into their application can truly elevate your space and enhance user experience. They are:

  1. Toilet seat cover dispensers
  2. Sanitary napkin and tampon dispensers
  3. Trash receptacles with lids
  4. Baby changing stations
  5. And hand sanitizer dispensers

Saying they’re worthwhile accessories to focus on is one thing. It’s another thing to prove it. Let’s talk about what makes these accessories shine and how to properly implement them.

Toilet Seat Cover Dispensers: Promoting Hygienic Practices

In one of their articles, ImperialDade, an industry leader in high-quality and top-of-the-line cleaning solutions, explained that even though “Restrooms take up to 5% percent of [the] commercial space [they] contain 20% of the dirt and account for 80% of building complaints.” the Ensuring optimal hygiene standards within commercial restrooms is paramount. Toilet seat cover dispensers offer users a practical solution to maintain cleanliness and peace of mind. By providing a physical barrier between users and toilet seats, these dispensers contribute significantly to the overall hygiene of the facility.

Install these dispensers near toilet stalls with clear instructions for use to promote hygiene. Regular stocking and strategic placement ensure effectiveness in maintaining cleanliness and user peace of mind.

Sanitary Napkin and Tampon Dispensers: Prioritizing Inclusivity and Comfort

This is one of those commercial toilet accessories that can instantly promote inclusivity. How? Acknowledging the diverse needs of restroom patrons is crucial for fostering an inclusive environment. Sanitary napkin and tampon dispensers exemplify this commitment by providing essential hygiene products to female users. Beyond mere functionality, these dispensers communicate a message of care and consideration towards all restroom visitors.

Place these dispensers discreetly in women’s restrooms with a variety of product options for user comfort. Prominently display signage to ensure all female patrons feel supported and respected.

Trash Receptacles with Lids: Mitigating Odors and Maintaining Cleanliness

Trash receptacles, often underestimated, play a pivotal role in upholding restroom aesthetics and hygiene. Lidded receptacles effectively contain waste, preventing unpleasant odors from permeating the space. By maintaining a tidy and odor-free environment, these receptacles elevate the overall restroom experience for users.

Select durable, odor-resistant bins and place them strategically throughout the restroom to contain waste and minimize odors. Regular cleaning and maintenance uphold cleanliness and prevent overflow.

Baby Changing Stations: Commercial Toilet Accessories That Support Family-Friendly Facilities

Businesses aiming to cultivate a family-friendly image must prioritize the provision of baby changing stations. These facilities cater to the needs of parents and caregivers, offering a safe and hygienic space for diaper changes. The inclusion of baby changing stations underscores a commitment to accommodating the diverse needs of patrons.

Install securely mounted changing stations in both men’s and women’s restrooms to support caregivers of all genders. Clear signage helps parents and caregivers locate these amenities easily.

Hand Sanitizer Dispensers: Reinforcing Hygiene Protocols

In an era marked by heightened hygiene awareness, hand sanitizer dispensers have emerged as indispensable restroom fixtures. Offering a convenient alternative to handwashing, these dispensers promote hand hygiene practices among users. Their strategic placement within restrooms reinforces the establishment’s dedication to public health and safety.

Install quality dispensers in prominent locations and regularly refill them with sanitizer to promote hand hygiene. Informative signage encourages regular use and maintenance ensures effectiveness in preventing germ transmission.

Five More Commercial Toilet Accessories That are Just as Important

Those don’t even scratch the surface. There’s more. At this point, it may seem like a lot to consider. However, working with a proper designer to hone in on these things can truly set your business apart. These are the five other accessories that you can’t afford to overlook:

  1. Grab bars
  2. Toilet paper holders with reserves
  3. Mirrors
  4. Coat hooks
  5. And emergency assistance pull cords and buttons

Looking at the list, some of these might actually seem a little obvious. This assumption is why they’re so commonly neglected. It makes sense to install things like grab bars and mirrors, but it makes more sense to design and install them intentionally.

Grab Bars: Ensuring Accessibility and Safety

Restroom accessibility is a fundamental consideration in commercial design, with grab bars playing a crucial role in facilitating safe and comfortable access for all users. These fixtures offer support and stability, particularly beneficial for individuals with mobility challenges or disabilities. By prioritizing accessibility, businesses demonstrate a commitment to inclusivity and compliance with regulatory standards.

Install grab bars to offer support and stability, particularly for users with mobility challenges. Prioritize accessibility to demonstrate a commitment to inclusivity and regulatory compliance.

Toilet Paper Holders with Reserves: Commercial Toilet Accessories to Ensure Continuity of Service

The availability of toilet paper is a basic yet essential aspect of restroom functionality. Toilet paper holders equipped with reserves ensure a consistent supply of this indispensable commodity, minimizing inconvenience for users. By preemptively addressing potential shortages, establishments uphold service quality and user satisfaction.

Mirrors: Enhancing Grooming and Perception

Mirrors serve a dual purpose in commercial restrooms, facilitating personal grooming activities while visually enlarging the space. Beyond their functional utility, mirrors contribute to the perceived cleanliness and sophistication of the restroom environment. Thoughtfully positioned mirrors elevate the overall aesthetic appeal and user experience.

Coat Hooks: Promoting Organization and Neatness

Coat hooks may appear inconsequential, yet their absence can lead to clutter and inconvenience within restroom spaces. By providing designated areas for hanging coats and personal belongings, these fixtures promote organization and tidiness. The inclusion of coat hooks underscores an attention to detail and a commitment to user comfort.

Attention to detail with coat hook inclusion demonstrates a commitment to user comfort and convenience. Yes, even something as small as coat hooks finds itself in the list of commercial toilet accessories that make the biggest difference.

Emergency Assistance Pull Cords and Buttons: Ensuring User Safety

Prioritizing user safety is non-negotiable in commercial restroom design, with emergency assistance mechanisms serving as vital safeguards. Pull cords or buttons enable users to summon assistance swiftly in the event of emergencies, facilitating prompt responses from staff or emergency services. Their presence underscores a proactive approach to safety and regulatory compliance.

The Benefits Intentional Commercial Washroom Accessories Bring to Your Business

As we mentioned earlier, integrating commonly overlooked commercial toilet accessories into your restroom design can yield several tangible benefits for businesses:

Enhanced Customer Experience: Access to amenities like baby changing stations, hand sanitizer dispensers, and well-stocked toilet paper holders enhances overall customer satisfaction, fostering repeat business and positive word-of-mouth recommendations.

Maximizing Space & Budget: A Guide to Commercial Restroom Layout

In the world of architecture and design, commercial restrooms are often overlooked. Yet, a well-designed restroom can enhance user experience, minimize maintenance, and even improve your company’s brand. This guide aims to provide practical tips to maximize space, budget, and efficiency when designing a commercial restroom layout. It includes the different details, regulations, and products that architects should consider in their planning process.

Understanding the Importance of a Well-Designed Commercial Restroom

When it comes to the value of well-designed commercial restrooms, there’s more to the story than simply functionality. In fact, a commercial restroom serves as a tangible representation of your brand’s values and your dedication to providing top-notch facilities for your customers. It’s not just a room with a purpose; it’s a statement of intent.

An intelligently designed restroom holds the power to elevate user satisfaction, streamline maintenance tasks, and boost the overall flow of foot traffic. It’s not simply about installing sinks and stalls—it’s about creating a space that seamlessly merges functionality, accessibility, cleanliness, and safety. It’s about putting user comfort front and center, and making every visitor feel valued and accommodated.

Therefore, when designing a commercial restroom, the goal should not be merely to tick boxes, but to create a space that adds value to the user’s experience. An efficient restroom design doesn’t simply meet needs—it exceeds expectations. It doesn’t just provide for the users—it respects and acknowledges them.

So, as an architect, it’s crucial to understand the fundamental importance of a well-designed commercial restroom. It’s not just a space—it’s an experience, a reflection of your brand, and a statement about your commitment to quality. Remember, good design is more than just aesthetics—it’s about improving lives, one restroom at a time.

Navigating the Building Codes and Regulations

Designing a commercial restroom isn’t just about aesthetic appeal or user comfort—it also entails a thorough understanding of building codes and regulations. Adherence to these can be a meticulous task, but it’s an indispensable one, for both legal and practical reasons.

An important framework to be cognizant of is the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This act sets out specific accessibility guidelines that all commercial restrooms must meet. These encompass space provisions for mobility aids and reachable fixtures for individuals with disabilities. Prioritizing accessibility is not only a legal requirement—it’s a reflection of your commitment to inclusivity and customer care. Understanding the ADA standards at the onset of your design process can help avoid legal complications and expensive modifications down the road.

Other regulatory considerations may also come into play, depending on your location and the nature of your establishment. It’s always advisable to familiarize yourself with local building codes and industry-specific regulations.

Consider building codes and regulations as design parameters that can help shape an efficient, user-friendly, and inclusive commercial restroom. Sure, they might feel like a complex maze at first, but once you navigate your way through, you’ll find that they help set the foundation for a well-planned restroom that caters to all users and stands the test of time. Remember, a restroom isn’t just a utility space—it’s an extension of your brand and values. It speaks volumes about your regard for your customers, their comfort, and their rights. And adhering to building codes and regulations is a testament to this commitment. So, let these standards guide your design process towards a restroom that is not just compliant, but also welcoming and user-friendly.

Maximizing Space with Clever Design and Fixture Choices

Crafting an efficient restroom layout can feel like solving a complex puzzle, especially when dealing with limited space. However, a strategic design approach can transform even the smallest area into a functional and roomy restroom. Wall-mounted fixtures are a smart choice, as they leave the floor unoccupied, giving an illusion of spaciousness. Thinking about corners? They can be utilized by installing corner sinks, which not only look chic but are also a space-saver. Compact toilets can also contribute significantly to saving space without compromising on comfort.

The goal is to create a layout that enables seamless movement, offering users ample space to navigate with ease. Don’t forget, the restroom is not merely a functional space but also a retreat offering privacy and comfort. Strategically placed partitions can ensure that privacy is maintained without making the area feel claustrophobic.

Designing a commercial restroom is akin to playing chess – every move counts. Be it the placement of a sink or the choice of fixtures, each decision can contribute to enhancing the sense of space. So, as you embark on this design journey, let clever design and fixture choices be your compass, guiding you towards the creation of a space-efficient, user-friendly, and impressive commercial restroom.

Balancing Quality and Cost in Material Selection

Choosing materials for your commercial restroom is like walking a tightrope—you’re constantly striving for balance. On one side, you have aesthetics and durability. On the other, budget and maintenance costs. The challenge is to find materials that enhance the overall look of the restroom, endure the test of time, and also remain within the allocated budget.

Quality materials might be more of an investment upfront, but they often prove to be cost-effective in the long haul. The reason? Lower maintenance and replacement costs. These materials are often more resistant to damage, making them a smart choice for high-traffic restrooms. They also tend to be easier to clean, a crucial factor in maintaining the cleanliness and appeal of your restroom.

Choosing materials also involves considering their resistance to vandalism. Unfortunately, commercial restrooms can sometimes fall prey to destructive acts. Opting for vandal-resistant materials can save you from the hassle and cost of frequent repairs.

In the grand scheme of things, it’s not just about choosing a material that looks good or fits the budget. It’s about finding a balance—a material that marries quality and cost-effectiveness, aesthetics, and durability. It’s about making smart decisions that lead to a restroom that’s not just visually pleasing but also robust and cost-efficient.

So, when it’s time to select materials for your commercial restroom, consider the long-term implications. Don’t be swayed by the lure of low-cost materials that might not withstand the demands of a busy restroom. Instead, seek a balance. Look for quality materials that not only uplift the restroom’s appearance but also promise longevity, reduce maintenance costs, and stay within budget. Remember, the true value of a material lies not just in its price tag but in the benefits it brings in the long run.

Incorporating Sustainable Practices for Long-term Efficiency

Green is the new gold. Embracing sustainability in your commercial restroom design can open doors to substantial long-term savings and increased efficiency. It’s about making strategic decisions that help preserve the planet while reducing your utility bills.

Consider the switch to energy-efficient lighting. Not only can it dramatically cut down your energy consumption, but it also enhances the overall ambience of your restroom. Likewise, low-flow faucets and dual-flush toilets can play a pivotal role in conserving water, lowering your utility costs, and demonstrating your commitment to the environment.

Moreover, think about infusing your space with recycled or eco-friendly materials. It’s not just about aesthetics, but also about reflecting your brand’s environmental responsibility. While such sustainable practices might need a bigger upfront investment, the long-term savings and benefits they bring are truly worth the cost.

By weaving sustainability into your restroom design, you’re not just creating a space that’s efficient and cost-effective, but also one that resonates with your commitment to the planet. So, as you step into the role of an architect, let sustainability be your guiding star, leading you to design a restroom that’s kind to your budget, your users, and the environment. Remember, it’s not just about saving money—it’s about saving the planet, one restroom at a time.

Key Rules for an Efficient ADA Compliant Public Bathroom Design

Designing an ADA compliant public bathroom isn’t merely about ticking off legal requirements; it’s about ensuring accessibility and comfort for every individual. For Facility Managers looking to embark on this task, navigating the regulations, budgeting, and space planning can seem daunting. But fear not; this blog will guide you through the process, ensuring that you maintain a user-friendly, efficient, and ADA compliant public bathroom.

Getting Started with ADA Compliant Bathroom Design

Embarking on the journey towards an ADA compliant bathroom design can initially seem like an uphill task, but with the right understanding and approach, it can be a straightforward and rewarding process.

First things first, it’s crucial to acquaint yourself with the ins and outs of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This powerful legislation is what mandates that all public facilities be accessible and accommodating to individuals with disabilities. It’s a guardian of equal rights, making sure that everyone can navigate and utilize public spaces easily and comfortably.

Once you’re well versed with the act, it’s time to roll up your sleeves and scrutinize your existing bathroom design. Look at it through the lens of ADA guidelines – is there enough space for wheelchair accessibility? Are the sinks and mirrors at the correct height? Can the door be easily opened by someone with limited mobility? This step-by-step, critical evaluation will help you highlight the elements that fall short of compliance and need to be upgraded or changed.

Remember, this isn’t a process to rush. Take your time, understand the nuances of the requirements, and plan your modifications thoroughly. Making your facility ADA compliant is not just about adhering to a law, but it’s also about showing empathy towards fellow humans and ensuring everyone’s comfort. It’s about making your facility a welcoming space for all. And that, indeed, is a worthy cause to embark on.

Key ADA Compliance Rules to Consider

Navigating the ins and outs of ADA compliance can feel like wading through a complex labyrinth. However, by understanding the core principles, you can demystify this process and create a public restroom that’s not only compliant but also inclusive.

First and foremost, think about the number and positioning of accessible stalls. According to ADA guidelines, you should have at least one stall specifically designed to be wheelchair-accessible. This stall needs to be sufficiently wide – a minimum of 60 inches, to be exact. This ensures ample space for wheelchair users to maneuver comfortably.

Moving on, reflect on the placement of sinks and mirrors. For wheelchair users, sinks should typically be installed at a height of about 34 inches off the floor. As for mirrors, ADA standards require their bottom edge to be no more than 40 inches above the floor or angled for wheelchair users.

Another essential aspect to consider is the width of your restroom doors. To make it easy for individuals with limited mobility to enter and exit, doors should have a minimum width of 32 inches.

Last but certainly not least, don’t forget about grab bars. These vital fixtures should be securely mounted and positioned at an appropriate height to provide necessary support.

As you can see, ADA compliance rules might appear to be a comprehensive checklist, but in essence, they boil down to a few key principles – accessibility, mobility, and support. Keep these principles at the forefront of your design process, and you’ll be well on your way to creating a public restroom that’s ADA compliant and welcoming to all.

Choosing Products that Guarantee Compliance

Navigating the maze of ADA compliant products can seem overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. The key is to zero in on items specifically designed to meet ADA guidelines – these are your secret weapon in creating an accessible bathroom that ticks all the compliance boxes. This includes everything from sinks and toilets that cater to wheelchair users, to strategically positioned grab bars for added support and stability.

Think of it as selecting the right tools for a job. If you pick the correct, certified products from the get-go, it makes the entire process smoother and more efficient. When browsing through options, keep an eye out for ADA badges or certification labels – these are usually a good indication that the product has been designed with ADA compliance in mind.

But it’s not just about picking any ADA-certified product off the shelf. It’s also about ensuring these products integrate seamlessly into your overall bathroom design, adding to its functionality without compromising on aesthetics. Remember, an ADA compliant bathroom doesn’t have to look sterile or hospital-like; it can be just as stylish and inviting as any other public restroom.

Selecting the right ADA compliant products is akin to putting together a puzzle – each piece has a role to play, and when they all fit together perfectly, you’re left with an end result that’s not only law-abiding but also user-friendly and welcoming to all.

Staying within Budget while Ensuring ADA Compliance

Transforming your public bathroom into an ADA-compliant space need not be a strain on your finances. With careful budgeting, smart product choices, and priority-based planning, you can meet the guidelines without breaking the bank.

The idea is to invest in products that bring a double value – serving both individuals with disabilities and those without. A good example is an appropriately height-adjusted sink which, while catering to wheelchair users, will also be comfortable for everyone else. This strategy not only ensures compliance but also brings efficiency in expenditure.

Another smart approach is to prioritize essential changes. Look at the changes that will have the most significant impact and start there. This could mean installing grab bars around the toilet and bathing areas, widening door entrances, or adjusting the height of your bathroom fixtures. These changes are typically more critical to ADA compliance than, say, swapping out a working hand dryer for a newer model.

Remember, becoming ADA-compliant is more of a marathon than a sprint. Not all changes need to happen at once. Instead, you could plan and budget for a series of smaller modifications over a period of time. This approach makes the process more manageable and less financially stressful, while still progressively moving towards full ADA compliance.

In the end, it’s all about balance – between ensuring accessibility for all and managing your resources wisely. ADA compliance doesn’t have to mean overspending; instead, it can be achieved through strategic planning and smart decision-making. So go ahead, start your journey towards creating an ADA-compliant bathroom that’s not only accessible to all but also respectful of your budget.

Maximizing Space for an Efficient Layout

Creating an ADA compliant bathroom that’s both accessible and efficient demands a careful balance between adhering to compliance requirements and smart space utilization. This task is akin to solving a complex puzzle, where each piece must be meticulously placed to create a harmonious whole.

Begin your design journey with a clear understanding of the spatial needs of your restroom users, particularly those using wheelchairs. ADA standards mandate specific floor space for unobstructed wheelchair movement and turning. Integrating this into your design is essential, but it shouldn’t compromise the overall spatial efficiency of your restroom.

Think of your layout as a well-choreographed dance. There should be enough room for effortless movement, yet every inch should serve a purpose. Pay attention to how your layout accommodates critical elements like accessible stalls, sinks, and door entrances. Position these fixtures thoughtfully, keeping in mind the needs of all users.

For instance, placing a wheelchair-accessible stall at the far end of the restroom might meet the compliance requirement, but it may not be the most efficient use of space. Consider positioning it closer to the entrance to minimize the travel distance for users with mobility impairments. This not only enhances accessibility but also contributes to the overall efficiency of your layout.

When designing your layout, don’t forget to account for future changes. ADA compliance is not a static goal; it evolves with changing guidelines and user needs. Ensure your layout is flexible enough to accommodate future modifications without requiring a complete overhaul.

Remember, the aim is not just to comply with ADA guidelines but to create a restroom that’s user-friendly and welcoming for everyone. This involves smart space utilization, thoughtful fixture placement, and a vision for future adaptability. This approach ensures you create a public restroom that’s not just a necessity but a space that’s truly inclusive and accommodating for all.

Finding a Reliable ADA Compliant Bathroom Manufacturer

Stepping into a partnership with a manufacturer that specializes in ADA-compliant products is like equipping yourself with a valuable ally on your journey towards creating an inclusive restroom. These manufacturers have traversed the path of ADA compliance time and again, equipping them with the expertise and knowledge to guide you through every twist and turn.

While searching for your ideal manufacturer, a critical factor to consider is their portfolio. Do they have a history of producing ADA-compliant bathroom fixtures? If so, that’s a promising sign. It implies they understand the nitty-gritty of ADA standards and can help you select products that are not just compliant but also efficient and aesthetically pleasing.

But the value of a reliable manufacturer extends beyond their product line. Their ability to provide expert advice and guidance is a priceless resource. This insight can help you navigate the sometimes tricky waters of ADA compliance with ease, allowing you to focus on creating a welcoming and accessible space for all.

Consider the level of customer service provided by the manufacturer. Will they be there to support you when you hit a roadblock? Are they quick to respond to queries, and do they provide practical, helpful solutions? The answers to these questions can make all the difference when you’re in the trenches of design and compliance.

Don’t forget to factor in the availability of replacement parts. Like all things, bathroom fixtures are subject to wear and tear. Having a steady supply of replacement parts can ensure your restroom remains ADA-compliant and fully functional for years to come.

In essence, finding a reliable ADA-compliant bathroom manufacturer is about more than just sourcing products. It’s about forging a partnership that offers support, guidance, and long-term reliability. It’s a valuable step in ensuring your public restroom is not just ADA-compliant, but a welcoming and inclusive space that caters to the needs of all users.

Regular Maintenance to Ensure Continuous ADA Compliance

Just as a well-oiled machine continues to perform at its best, your ADA-compliant bathroom requires ongoing attention to maintain its status. The road to compliance doesn’t end with the installation of appropriate fixtures; it extends into the realm of regular upkeep and maintenance.

An ADA compliant bathroom is like a living entity; it needs routine care to stay in its prime. It’s critical to keep in mind that fixtures and installations, regardless of their initial compliance, can wear down or malfunction over time. This wear and tear could inadvertently cause your facility to slide out of compliance, even after meticulous design and implementation.

The solution lies in proactive maintenance. Regular inspections are your best defense against these gradual shifts away from compliance. Establish a schedule for thorough checks to ensure that all fixtures still meet ADA guidelines. From door widths and sink heights to the positioning and sturdiness of grab bars, each element needs to be under constant surveillance.

Consider creating a maintenance checklist aligned with ADA standards to guide your routine inspections. This can serve as a handy tool to ensure no aspect of your restroom falls through the cracks. And in case of wear and tear or any other issues that compromise ADA compliance, immediate action should be taken. This could mean adjusting the height of a mirror, tightening a loose grab bar, or replacing a worn-out fixture.

Additionally, always keep an eye on the availability of replacement parts. Regular contact with your manufacturer can ensure you always have the necessary parts on hand to promptly address any issues and keep your bathroom fully functional and compliant.

Remember, continuous compliance is a journey, not a destination. It requires consistent effort, regular checks, and prompt action when necessary. By embracing this ongoing commitment, you will ensure your public restroom remains not just ADA compliant, but also a comfortable and welcoming space for all users.

Creating a Well-Functioning Commercial Handicap Bathroom Layout for Your Business

Creating a commercial handicap bathroom layout that functions properly is an important part of ensuring that people with disabilities have access to your business. It is important to consider the accessibility requirements, the type of accessories and equipment needed, and the necessary maintenance and upkeep of the space. In this blog post, we will discuss the best way to design a commercial handicap bathroom layout, the things to consider during the design process, a list of the most important accessories, and how to ensure proper maintenance once the bathroom is built.

Why Design a Proper Handicap Bathroom Layout

Designing a proper handicapped bathroom layout is essential for ensuring ADA bathroom compliance and providing a safe and accessible environment for all users. By creating an ADA bathroom layout, you can meet the accessibility requirements outlined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and make your facility welcoming for people with disabilities. A well-designed washroom layout not only improves accessibility but also demonstrates your commitment to inclusivity and customer satisfaction.

The Importance of Accessible and Safe Doorways and Entryways

Creating accessible and safe doorways and entryways is a crucial aspect of designing a commercial bathroom layout. By ensuring that these areas are well-designed and meet ADA bathroom compliance standards, you can provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for people with disabilities. Accessible doorways and entryways make it easier for individuals using mobility aids, such as wheelchairs or walkers, to enter and exit the bathroom without any obstacles. This not only improves accessibility but also enhances the overall functionality and usability of the space. This crucial aspect becomes even more paramount when you realize how many Americans rely on some form of walking aid.

A well-designed washroom layout considers the width and accessibility of the doorway, the presence of ramps or elevators, and the availability of automatic door openers for added convenience. By prioritizing accessible and safe doorways and entryways, you can demonstrate your commitment to inclusivity and ensure that all users feel comfortable and supported in your facility.

Proper Spacing and Placement of Fixtures in a Commercial Handicap Bathroom Layout

Proper spacing and placement of fixtures are essential in creating a functional and accessible commercial handicapped bathroom. Maximizing the usability and convenience of a space is a simple equation. You must adhere to ADA bathroom layout guidelines and ensure ADA bathroom compliance. Doing so means considering factors such as the placement of grab bars and the height of toilets and sinks. The distance between fixtures is also a crucial factor to address. A well-thought-through handicapped washroom design considers the specific needs of individuals with disabilities. It promotes their independence and comfort within your facility. By prioritizing proper spacing and placement, you can create a truly inclusive environment that meets the highest standards of accessibility.

Key Considerations for a Handicap Washroom

When designing a commercial bathroom layout, there are key accessories that are essential for ensuring accessibility and safety. ADA bathroom layout guidelines recommend considering:

  • Grab bars. They provide support and stability for individuals with mobility challenges.
  • Toilet seat height. It should be considered to make it easier for individuals to transfer from a wheelchair.
  • Sink height. It should be at a level that allows wheelchair users to comfortably reach the faucet and other amenities.

These key accessories and other ADA bathroom layout considerations will help create a fully accessible and functional restroom for all users.

How Flooring and Lighting Create a Safe Bathroom

Proper flooring and lighting play a vital role in creating a safe and accessible commercial bathroom. The flooring should be slip-resistant to prevent accidents, especially for individuals using mobility aids. It’s important to choose flooring materials that are durable and easy to clean to ensure proper maintenance. Additionally, well-designed lighting is essential for individuals with visual impairments. Bright, evenly distributed lighting ensures visibility and eliminates shadows that can pose risks. By prioritizing flooring and lighting, you can create a bathroom that is not only accessible but also safe and welcoming for all users.

Stay Within Budget and Meet Your Requirements

As a facility manager, you understand the importance of staying within budget while still meeting all the requirements and needs for your commercial handicapped bathroom. It can be a daunting task, but there are ways to achieve both. One way is to prioritize your expenses and focus on the essential elements that ensure accessibility and safety. Another option is to explore cost-effective alternatives without compromising quality. Additionally, consider partnering with reliable suppliers who offer competitive prices and high-quality building products.

Creating a well-functioning bathroom layout that meets all necessary standards is achievable by carefully managing your budget and making informed decisions. This approach ensures cost-effectiveness without compromising quality.

Find Reliable Suppliers of Products and Accessories for Your Commercial Handicap Bathroom Layout

When it comes to finding reliable suppliers for building products and accessories for your commercial handicap bathroom, it’s crucial to do your research. Look for suppliers who have a reputation for providing high-quality products that meet ADA compliance standards. Consider their track record and customer reviews to ensure their reliability. Additionally, explore options for cost-effective alternatives without compromising quality.

Establishing relationships with trustworthy suppliers will give you peace of mind knowing that you have access to the necessary products and accessories to maintain and enhance your handicapped bathroom.

Why Proper Maintenance and Upkeep Matter

Maintaining a well-functioning bathroom is essential for the long-term accessibility and usability of your facility. Regular inspections and cleaning should be scheduled to ensure that all fixtures, accessories, and equipment are in proper working order. It is also important to address any repairs or replacements promptly to avoid potential hazards or inconveniences for users. Additionally, regularly restocking necessary supplies, such as toilet paper, hand soap, and paper towels, will help ensure that the bathroom is always ready for use.

By prioritizing proper maintenance and upkeep, you can create a bathroom that consistently meets the needs of all users and demonstrates your commitment to accessibility and inclusivity.

Follow along as the experts at American Specialties, Inc. delve into the intertwined details of ADA bathroom floor plans for commercial properties. They’ll highlight why these floor plans are essential and why seeking professional help might be the smartest move.

Here’s what you can expect:

  1. The Importance of ADA Compliance in Commercial Spaces
  2. The Basics of ADA Bathroom Floor Plans
  3. Seeking professional help for creating ADA-compliant bathroom floor plans

In the end, you’re more than welcome to handle things on your own. As such, ASI offers everything you could imagine, from appliances to partitions. Or you can grow your team and work with professionals ready to share their experience with you.

Let’s get into it.

The Importance of ADA Compliance in Commercial Spaces

Ever since its signing on July 26th, 1990, The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) has set the precedent for simple things like inclusivity and accessibility. Up until this point, these things were often overlooked. Inclusivity and accessibility were not the problem of the facility owner or manager. Not anymore. ADA bathroom floor plans in commercial areas can make a huge difference.

As times have changed and businesses have grown, the need to obtain new customers and retain old ones has grown as well. In fact, the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division forecasts a substantial future need for ADA compliance not only for the 50 million Americans currently living with some kind of disability but also for the 71.5 million baby boomers that will soon require similar services.

So, what can you do, as an architect, facility manager or a business owner? Easy. You can start by better understanding these two things:

  1. Legal requirements
  2. Best practices for engaging your customers

Legal Requirements: Ensuring Compliance with ADA Regulations

There is so much to know when it comes to legal requirements revolving around ADA. However, we’ve narrowed it down to two big points you should always keep at the forefront of your mind. These will help streamline the design process and avoid future pitfalls.

Federal Regulations: The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a federal law that mandates accessibility for individuals with disabilities in public places, including commercial properties (and commercial bathroom floor plans).

Legal Troubles: Non-compliance can result in costly legal issues and fines. By designing ADA-compliant bathroom floor plans, you reduce the risk of legal complications.

If you don’t know what these regulations are, that’s perfectly fine. You can find them all on the official website. We’re also going to simplify some of them for you after we discuss the importance of welcoming all customers.

ADA Bathroom Floor Plans Commercial: Welcoming All Customers

Legal requirements aside, there’s the moral imperative of making your customers feel comfortable. Sure, it might sound like a simple task, but what comfort looks like varies just as much as individuals do from one to the next. Luckily, ADA guidelines give you the framework for what works for most and with a positive return.

Expanding Your Customer Base: An ADA-compliant bathroom demonstrates your commitment to inclusivity and expands your customer base to include individuals with disabilities.

Positive Reputation: It helps build a positive reputation as an inclusive and accommodating business, which can lead to increased patronage and customer loyalty.

With legal requirements and welcoming new customers out of the way, we can move on to the basics of ADA-compliant bathroom floor plans. This also allows us to expand a little on some of those regulations we mentioned earlier.

The Basics of ADA Bathroom Floor Plans

All the little details that go into an ADA bathroom floor plan for commercial use can be narrowed down into two primary categories, or themes. Identifying these early on and allowing them to be what guides your design process will make work easier in the long run.

  1. Size and space
  2. Fixtures and accessories

Size and Space: Ensuring Accessibility

We know what you must be thinking. Size and space? Shouldn’t that be considered in all types of design?

You’re right. However, when it comes to designing ADA-compliant bathrooms for commercial spaces, it helps to shift your thinking. We need to get into a mindset of what we call “The Two M’s,” which are minimums and maneuverability.

Minimum Dimensions: ADA regulations specify minimum dimensions for bathroom stalls, clear floor space, and fixtures to accommodate individuals with disabilities.

Maneuverability: Sufficient space ensures easy maneuverability for wheelchair users and those with mobility challenges.

Unfortunately, “The Two M’s” aren’t enough. They’re only half the battle. Yes, the goal is to design a bathroom that is comfortable for those with disabilities. That doesn’t mean we can ignore those without disabilities. An effective commercial bathroom must be comfortable for all patrons.

Fixtures and Accessories: ADA Bathroom Floor Plans Commercial for All

From grab bars to sinks, toilets, and paper towel dispensers, the appropriate heights and clear floor spaces for wheelchair users are significant. These details are also significant for non-wheelchair users.

Accessible Fixtures: ADA-compliant fixtures include grab bars, sinks, toilets, and paper towel dispensers at appropriate heights. Be sure to include fixtures at regular heights as well.

Clear Floor Space: Ensure there’s clear floor space under fixtures for wheelchair users to approach comfortably.

Knowing what sort of fixtures and appliances you need is one thing. Knowing where to get them is another. You could have the best design in the world, but it will never come to fruition without the proper resources. If you’re the architect in charge or the business owner, it never hurts to have another expert on your team.

Why Seek Professional Help for ADA Bathroom Floor Plans?

At ASI, we not only design and engineer all our fixtures and appliances in-house, but we manufacture them as well. Finding someone who can do this for you is crucial. They’ll quickly become a non-negotiable part of your team and ensure your success with future ADA bathroom floor plans in commercial projects. Specifically, we do this by adhering to two unwavering principles:

  1. Delivering custom solutions
  2. And avoiding costly mistakes

Custom Solutions: Tailoring Designs to Your Space

Custom solutions might sound like a relatively generic service—overused by some companies that don’t really follow through. However, when we say we deliver custom solutions, we mean it. For us, it means tailoring designs to your needs and increasing overall efficiency, easily putting you ahead of the competition.

Tailored Designs: Professional manufacturers and designers can create customized bathroom floor plans that suit your specific commercial space, optimizing layout and functionality.

Efficiency: They ensure efficient use of space, maximizing accessibility while maintaining an aesthetically pleasing design.

Tailored designs and efficiency are just the start, too. Neither of these means anything if, at the end of the day, your commercial bathroom doesn’t meet compliance. CodeMantra, a third-party intelligent document processor, once outlined what sort of fines a company can face and just who is eligible to sue. The numbers were staggering.

Avoid Costly ADA Bathroom Floor Plans Mistakes

Federal law allows for $75,000 in damages for the first violation and up to $150,000 for subsequent violations. As for who can sue, the answer is anyone who feels they’ve been discriminated against. So, it stands to reason to avoid these at all costs. Our goals are to help prevent any legal issues and guarantee long-term savings.

Prevent Legal Issues: Professional manufacturers and designers can help you avoid costly legal problems due to non-compliance, saving you both time and money.

Long-Term Savings: Investing in professional design prevents expensive retrofits later, enhancing the longevity of your bathroom facilities.

The number one thing to remember is that you’re not alone. Yes, these are big issues. But no, you don’t need to tackle them by yourself. Finding that perfect accessories partner to add to your team is key to ensuring your success. We’re excited to see what you do.

For example, choose touchless hand towel dispensers and soap dispensers that are designed for high-volume usage. Additionally, opt for durable fixtures and materials that can withstand frequent cleaning and maintenance. By investing in commercial restroom accessories and design elements that are specifically tailored for high traffic areas, you can ensure a restroom that not only looks great but also functions effectively in a busy environment.

Example 2: Luxury Hotel Restroom Design

Luxury hotels strive to provide an exceptional experience for their guests, and the restroom design is no exception. A well-designed luxury hotel restroom should exude elegance and sophistication. To achieve this, it is crucial to select high-end commercial washroom accessories and pay attention to every detail of the commercial washroom design.

From luxurious fixtures and materials to stylish commercial restroom accessories, every element should reflect the hotel’s commitment to excellence. Consider incorporating features like elegant touchless hand towel dispensers, high-quality soap dispensers, and luxurious finishes. By investing in top-of-the-line commercial restroom accessories and design elements, luxury hotels can create a restroom that elevates the guest experience and leaves a lasting impression.

Example 3: Office Building Restroom Design

For office buildings, the design of the restroom should prioritize functionality and efficiency. A well-designed commercial washroom can contribute to a positive working environment and enhance productivity. When it comes to commercial washroom design for office buildings, consider incorporating sleek and modern fixtures that align with the overall aesthetic of the space. Additionally, focus on maximizing space utilization by implementing smart storage solutions and thoughtful layout.

By creating a comfortable and visually appealing restroom for employees, you can contribute to their overall satisfaction and well-being in the workplace. Invest in commercial restroom accessories that elevate the design and functionality of the office building restroom, creating a space that employees will appreciate.

Commercial Restroom Design Examples and Must-Have Washroom Accessories

When designing a commercial restroom, it’s important to include must-have washroom accessories that enhance the functionality and user experience. Some essential accessories to consider are touchless hand towel dispensers, soap dispensers, and waste bins. Touchless technology not only promotes hygiene but also adds a modern and sleek touch to the restroom design. Quality soap dispensers ensure proper hand hygiene, while well-placed waste bins help maintain cleanliness.

Other accessories to consider include hand dryers, mirrors, and baby changing stations, depending on the specific needs of your restroom. By incorporating these must-have accessories, you can create a commercial restroom that is both stylish and functional.

Importance of Touchless Technology

In today’s fast-paced world, touchless technology has become increasingly important in commercial restroom design. It offers numerous benefits that enhance the user experience and promote a clean and hygienic environment. Touchless hand towel dispensers and soap dispensers reduce the spread of germs by eliminating the need for physical contact. This not only improves overall hygiene but also gives users a sense of safety and peace of mind.

Additionally, touchless technology adds a modern and sleek touch to the restroom design, creating a more visually appealing and sophisticated space. By incorporating touchless technology into your commercial restroom design, you can ensure a high level of cleanliness, convenience, and user satisfaction.

Maximizing Accessibility for All Users

Maximizing accessibility is a crucial aspect of commercial restroom design. By ensuring that your restroom is accessible to all users, you can create an inclusive and welcoming environment. Consider incorporating features such as grab bars, accessible sinks and toilets, as well as a spacious layout that accommodates wheelchairs and mobility devices. It’s also important to provide clear signage and visual indicators for individuals with visual impairments. By prioritizing accessibility in your restroom design, you can ensure that all users, regardless of their abilities, can navigate and use the facilities comfortably.

More Than Just Commercial Restroom Design Examples you can Use

Maintaining a clean and hygienic washroom is essential for any commercial restroom design. Here are some best practices to ensure a sanitary environment:

  1. Regular Cleaning: Develop a cleaning schedule that includes regular disinfection of all surfaces, fixtures, and accessories. Pay special attention to high-touch areas like door handles and faucets.
  2. Adequate Ventilation: Proper ventilation helps remove odors and prevents the buildup of bacteria and germs. Install ventilation systems or ensure windows can be opened to allow fresh air circulation.
  3. Hand Hygiene: Encourage proper handwashing by providing high-quality soap dispensers and touchless hand towel dispensers. Place hand sanitizers in easily accessible areas as an additional hygiene measure.
  4. Waste Management: Proper waste management is crucial for maintaining cleanliness. Provide sufficient waste bins and ensure they are emptied regularly to prevent overflowing and unpleasant odors.
  5. Regular Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections to identify and address any issues promptly. Fix leaky faucets or toilets, replace broken accessories, and address any maintenance concerns to ensure a well-functioning restroom.

By following these best practices and considering these commercial restroom design examples, you can create a clean and hygienic washroom that enhances the overall user experience.

Commercial Bathroom Floor Plans: An Art and Science

Commercial bathroom floor plans that are well-designed and intentional go beyond utility. They contribute to the overall experience of customers and employees. It doesn’t stop there. Purposeful bathroom plans have the unique potential of actually supporting a business’s reputation. However, this only happens when the architect responsible aligns their design with certain expectations like hygiene, comfort, and sustainability.

As we’re sure you know, in the realm of architectural design, every detail counts. When it comes to commercial spaces, one crucial aspect is the floor plan. Unfortunately, this aspect is often the most overlooked. With so many other variables on the table and input coming from every direction, it’s easy to lose track of the little things.

A well-designed commercial bathroom does two things. First, it serves its function. And second, it enhances the overall experience of the space. Just for you, the experts at ASI have expanded on the nuances of creating exceptional floor plans.

This guide will help you marry functionality with aesthetics, while also emphasizing innovative resources and ideas.

Traffic flow: The Foundation of Exceptional Design

It’s odd at times to think of bathrooms as having traffic. Except, that’s exactly what it is, especially in large-scale, commercial spaces. If a crossroads or intersection is poorly thought through, all traffic stops. The same applies to commercial bathrooms.

Successful commercial bathroom floor plans start with a thorough understanding of traffic flow. As you design the space, you must consider the peak hours of foot traffic. This is for both customers and employees, and it ensures the bathroom can accommodate the influx of visitors without causing congestion. Here are some key points to consider:

  • Entry and Exit Points: Strategically position entry and exit points to minimize congestion. If the space is limited, clear signage can guide users effortlessly.
  • Zoning: Divide the space into zones based on function. Things like toilets, sinks, and hand dryers should be separated. This minimizes overcrowding in any one area.
  • ADA Compliance: Ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines. Include ample space for wheelchair users and consider grab bar placements.

Unfortunately, understanding traffic flow isn’t enough. You can have the most well-laid-out floor plan in the world, but it will mean nothing unless balanced with comfort and efficiency.

Commercial Bathroom Floor Plans That Are Comfortable and Efficient

Beyond functionality, your floor plan should provide a sense of comfort and efficiency. After all, that’s what your client deserves, right? Any architect worth their salt should strive to create spaces that make users feel at ease. However, that can be tough, especially after focusing so much on traffic flow. So, here’s what the experts at ASI say:

  • Layout Flexibility: Create flexible layouts that can accommodate various user needs. This means focusing on universal design principles to make the bathroom usable for everyone.
  • Natural Light and Ventilation: If possible, integrate natural light sources and proper ventilation. These two concepts not only create a pleasant atmosphere but also help with hygiene.
  • Privacy Considerations: Implement adequate privacy measures, such as well-spaced stalls and soundproofing elements, to enhance user comfort.
  • Materials Selection: Choose durable, easy-to-clean materials that can withstand heavy foot traffic and frequent cleaning. Eco-friendliness is always a plus.

All this starts to touch on something else. As your vision comes together, so do details most others won’t consider in commercial bathroom floor plans. But you do. They are the unique, important things that bring the space together. They’re what most consider the ‘wow’ factor.

Adding the ‘Wow’ Factor

While functionality is paramount to your overall design, aesthetics play a vital role too. They aid in creating memorable experiences. With a little extra thought, architectural choices can elevate the overall ambiance of a bathroom space. These are the big three you should consider:

  • Color Palette: Create a color palette that aligns with the pre-existing theme of the commercial space but takes it one step further. Consider using calming tones for a relaxing atmosphere.
  • Lighting: Thoughtfully selected, lighting fixtures can complement your design while also providing ample illumination. Incorporating energy-efficient options is always a plus.
  • Accents and Artwork: Integrate subtle accents and artwork that resonate with the brand or theme of the establishment. This adds a touch of personality to the space.

With the wow factor out of the way, you can move on to bigger things. Traffic flow, comfort, and efficiency are all important aspects of designing a commercial bathroom, but they’re largely dependent on something else. You must always consider fixtures and accessories.

Commercial Bathroom Floor Plans That Innovate

In today’s modern age, designing a commercial bathroom goes beyond the basics. It has to, and there’s no reason why it shouldn’t. You can impress your clients and cater to the users’ needs by incorporating innovative fixtures and accessories. The experts at ASI have provided these examples, not to mention they’ve seen amazing success with them:

  • Touchless Technology: Motion-activated faucets, soap dispensers, and flush systems elevate hygienic protocols. They also add a touch of luxury that nothing else can.
  • Green Initiatives: Once again, consider water-saving fixtures and sustainable materials. These create a better brand image for your client and are your addition to eco-friendly trends.
  • Multi-Functional Spaces: In smaller establishments, explore the concept of multi-functional bathrooms. These cater to various needs without sacrificing space or style.

And on that note, the more thought you put into your design, the more complex the process can become. It’s a normal and necessary progression. So, what do you do to ensure your vision comes to life or to work through a difficult problem?

Practical Steps for Bringing Your Vision to Life

Designing exceptional commercial bathroom floor plans is a journey that involves hard work, research, and attention to detail. You’re capable of all those things, but sometimes you need a little help. That’s okay. Here are steps to consider:

  • Client Consultation: Understand your client’s vision and brand identity. Incorporate their input while offering your expertise. Meet with them often and keep an open line of communication.
  • Research and Trends: Stay updated with the latest bathroom design trends and innovations. Incorporate these where appropriate to give your design the cutting edge it deserves.
  • 3D Visualization: If possible, use 3D modeling tools to create visualizations that allow clients and yourself to experience the design before construction begins.
  • Work with Contractors: Work closely with contractors to ensure your design is executable and stays within budget. It never hurts to build relationships.

But what if you need a little extra help? What if you don’t even know where to start? ASI offers more than just fixtures and appliances. They’re looking to build a relationship with you to see your vision through.

Commercial Washroom Equipment Design

Using the correct commercial washroom equipment for your public restroom can unlock an abundance of design prospects. Above all else, you must ponder the configuration and usability of the space. Secondly, you should source the ideal products to make sure you are capitalizing on the potential available to you and your patrons. It is vital to facilitate a speedy and efficient in-and-out process for washroom visitors. Basically, no one wishes to stay in the presence of unfamiliar people any longer than is required. Therefore, make sure to invest in equipment that achieves four main objectives: maximizing potential, promoting efficiency, delighting guests, and benefiting the bottom line.

#1: Opt for commercial washroom equipment design that maximizes your space.

Among the initial objectives you should consider when constructing a streamlined washroom is the space you have available. While it might seem clear, ensuring that every inch is being utilized effectively can be a deciding factor for the success of your design. An ingenious and creative washroom plan can be correlated with attaining the other objectives outlined below. Thus, it is a wise move to begin with this.

Take note that there are washroom design specialists who can help you make the best decisions for the restroom. They can evaluate your present space and design a full layout to bring about the greatest outcome.

#2: Make it quick and simple for your guests.

Basically, your guests are the reason why of all these decisions matter. It may come as a shock, but the appearance of your commercial washroom can be a make or break visitor experience. According to a survey, 50 percent of people who come across a soiled restroom would discuss it with friends and family. In today’s world, where thoughts and ratings are widely visible online, guests make their opinions known to a wide audience. Such reviews can cost a business potential customers.

In addition, selecting a commercial washroom equipment design that allows your guests to enter and leave swiftly and without hassle should be at the top of your priorities. Touchless and automated products have transitioned from “desirable” to “essential” when it comes to modernizing your washroom design.

#3: Look for products that streamline productivity.

Remember that although you are fitting out this bathroom to please your guests, you should also search for ways to make life simpler for yourself. Put differently, think of the long-term upkeep requirements. Fortunately, contemporary commercial washroom equipment is engineered to make cleanliness and maintenance much simpler to achieve. Invention has led to various design changes that can remove the hassle of keeping the space spotless, attractive, and in keeping with the rest of your business’s aesthetics.

Especially, search for items that meet this criterion. For example, when they require new soap, some soap dispensers can alert facility managers. Moreover, manufacturers specifically design multi-feed soap dispensing models to be more convenient to fill. This added benefit saves time for maintenance staff. More current handwashing systems also include bigger soap dispensers, which reduces the number of refills needed. Lastly, products now come in a variety of shapes, designs, and colors. Select ones that match your business aesthetic to achieve a clean look all throughout the premises.

#4: Make an economical decision for your business.

Identify products that not only save you money upfront but ones that save you time during use and installation. As stated previously, efficiency is paramount. Goods that offer multiple advantages to you and the user should be at the top of your list.

Finally, there are numerous choices when it comes to picking a supplier for your commercial restroom products. They are, however, not all created equal. Weigh the resources made accessible to you by the provider.

  • Does the company only distribute the products? Or, do they design, engineer, and manufacture them, as well?
  • Are there any other customer resources that the company provides?
  • What type of service can be expected?
  • What is the company’s track record in the industry?

All the answers to these queries can influence your bottom line. As they say, time is money. The more resources your provider provides to streamline your experience, the better results you can anticipate.

Commercial Bathroom Stall Accessories for a COVID-safe Restroom

Over the past few years, the COVID-19 virus changed the patterns of everyday life; even the need for new and inventive commercial bathroom stall accessories wasn’t immune. While the virus presented obstacles to our regular routines, it also left room for reinvention and growth. There came an opportunity to rethink the way we, as individuals and business owners, approach the tasks at hand. With the pandemic now behind us, we must now take into account the different ways that we learned to function in public spaces. Additionally, we should consider what our clients and customers will need to feel safe in this new climate, as well.

As the world returns to activities in public spaces, with a different mindset and new priorities, the use of public restrooms is inevitable. This means we need to reconsider the best ways to make it a safe environment. A vigilant routine of cleaning and disinfecting is the best way to prevent spreading germs. However, there are tools at our disposal to bolster these efforts. Installing the right commercial bathroom stall accessories can improve overall sanitation and keep occupants safe.

Touchless Soap Dispensers

Touchless soap dispensers are now a staple tool in public restrooms. Especially during the pandemic, they helped to eliminate contact points in the washroom. These products also make it easier for users to thoroughly wash their hands. Finally, automating the process makes sure that washroom occupants move quickly and efficiently, minimizing the amount of time spent in this public space. Washing your hands represents the simplest hygienic habit and encouraging it is a great way to cut down on the spread of germs and disease.

EZ Fill™ Stand-alone Foam Soap Dispenser

Constructed of a chrome-plated spout, these heavy-duty brass dispensers feature hands-free sensor housing and a highly polished finish. They are battery or AC power-operated. LED indicates function and battery condition on the face front. EZ FILL™ features an anti-rotation flange and is easy to use. The translucent tank holds 33.8 oz (1 L) of liquid foaming soap.

Other Commercial Bathroom Stall Accessories Like Automatic Hand Dryers

Similar to touchless soap dispenses, automatic hand dryers also eliminate contact points within a restroom. In addition, these touchless commercial bathroom stall accessories cut down the users’ time spent in the restroom. Finally, the newer styles of this product help to lessen the staff’s time replacing paper towel rolls and removing waste.

TURBO-Pro™ High-Speed ADA Hand Dryer

This hand dryer is ADA-compliant, high-speed, and automatic. It features a HEPA filter, which purifies the air before it dries hands. The filter is replaceable and lives in a separate chamber, which allows for removal without the need to disconnect the dryer. The owner controls air temperature as well as airspeed. It comes with a 5-year warranty and is made in three different colors: matte black, white, and stainless steel.

Automatic Roll Towel Dispensers

All new automatic roll towel dispensers prevent germs from spreading while drying hands. Limiting the users’ contact with the product and saving time creates similar efficiencies to the products above.

PIATTO™ Automatic Roll Dispenser

This sophisticated automatic paper towel dispenser is completely recessed into the plane of the washroom wall. Field-adjustable, furniture-quality hinges attach the phenolic door to the cabinet. All hardware is concealed giving the Piatto™ Collection its minimalist appeal. This dispenser comes in matte black or white, is battery-operated, and automatically dispenses a length of towel when a hand is placed in front of it. At each activation, the unit feeds out a length of towel selected by the owner who sets the length, delay, and paper saver switches.

Hand Sanitizer Dispensers are Valuable Commercial Bathroom Stall Accessories too

As people are now in more of a hurry to get in and out of crowded public spaces, hand sanitizer has become an easy favorite. It is a quick and efficient solution for cleaning your hands in a hurry. Public restrooms that feature automated, touchless hand sanitizer dispensers create an even more streamlined experience for the occupants.

ROVAL™ Automatic Hand Sanitizer Dispenser

A popular product during COVID-19, this dispenser can dispense soap or hand sanitizer in both foam and liquid formats. It can be surface- or stand-mounted. A single shot of foam soap or foam hand sanitizer is automatically dispensed by a battery-operated mechanism when the sensor under the dispenser is activated.

Commercial Bathroom Ideas: Breaking It Down

Coming up with commercial bathroom ideas is no easy task. There’s a lot to consider; there’s everything you should do and a plethora of things you shouldn’t. At ASI, we’re here to help. With the right partner, this process can be a total cinch.

These are the key concepts to consider when designing a commercial bathroom:

  • Try to create a concept around open design.
  • Maximize every inch of space you have.
  • Adhere strictly to every ADA compliance guideline.
  • ensure you use the best appliances and fixtures you can find.

Three of these concepts equally bear the success of your bathroom design. However, one of them bears just a little more. It can either set your design above the rest or let it fall flat.

Designing an Open Concept

There’s no question. Open concepts are still widely popular—of course, there are some who may disagree. However, ever since open concepts entered the housing market somewhere in the mid-20th century, they quickly became commonplace in the commercial realm too. As such, when coming up with your best commercial bathroom ideas, an open concept must be at the top.

It helps to consider what sort of clientele will use your bathroom.

  • High-end restaurant diners: Work within your budget to give these guests the comforts they paid for, while also adhering to your client’s specifications. Prioritize clean partitions and luxurious materials.
  • Fitness center patrons: Maximize everything. These individuals move fast, and if what they need isn’t within arm’s reach, you’ve done something wrong. utilize features that provide them with their own spaces to operate in.
  • Office coworkers: It may sound strange to emphasize talking areas in a bathroom, but that’s exactly what you need to do here. In the busiest offices, washing one’s hands might be the only chance one gets to connect with a coworker.
  • Hotel guests: Like restaurant diners, give these guests the comforts they paid for but now focus on efficiency. In your design, make ingress and egress work for you to create the illusion of privacy in shared spaces.

The prospect of designing a commercial bathroom might seem like a daunting task. It doesn’t have to be, especially when you consider who you’re designing it for and what’s widely accepted.

Maximize Space in Your Commercial Bathroom Ideas

You might not always have the space you need to give the client what they want. Thankfully, there are some tricks you can employ that will get you close.

If possible, permit natural lighting in your commercial bathroom design. Natural lighting possesses the inherent trait of opening space. But take caution, as there is no cap or ideal ratio to rely on. The more natural lighting you permit, the more open the space will feel. The feeling of privacy quickly plummets, and privacy is one thing you cannot compromise. To combat this, employ recessed lighting.

Not only is physical lighting not as popular as it used to be, but it also tends to visually weigh down the ceiling, making it appear lower than it is. To prevent this intrusion of space from ever occurring, design recessed lighting into your bathroom space as soon as you can. By blurring the hard lines of where walls meet and not being visible themselves, they make a cramped room feel spacious.

Unibox, a visual communications company in the UK, agrees that lighting plays an instrumental role in whether someone perceives a room as comfortable, relaxing, or otherwise.

In the end, it’s important not to get too carried away with the balance between open designs and maximized spaces, because there’s something else to consider. Whatever your final design is, it must adhere to ADA compliance guidelines.

Commercial Bathroom Ideas and the ADA

When designing a commercial bathroom, a lot goes into upholding the values outlined in the ADA. In short, it must meet compliance by ensuring its design allows for easy maneuvering. It must also include mobility tools, like grab bars.

  • Single-stall bathrooms: To keep it simple, a mobility circle of at least 60 inches around the side wall and 56 inches from the rear is required. This gives those using a standard wheelchair the space to make an entire 360-degree turn.
  • Multi-stall bathrooms: Keeping the requirements of a single-stall bathroom in mind, a multi-stall bathroom requires at least one handicap stall that meets those requirements. There must also be enough space for someone to maneuver to that stall.

With ADA compliance met, maximized spaces, and open designs in mind, you can focus on the concept that will set your design above the rest: appliances and fixtures.

Appliances and Fixtures: Finding the Best

At ASI, form always follows function, but that doesn’t mean form can’t also look good. With every concept previously mentioned in mind, ASI designs and manufactures each of its pieces in-house. This means you get exactly what you want, closer to the price you need.

It makes sense to find a provider who offers multiple collections and an array of products.

  • Piatto Collection: The elegance of less.
  • Velare Collection: Elegantly conceal clutter.
  • Roval Collection: Engineered for high-profile settings.
  • Profile Collection: Manufactured with highly durable stainless steel.
  • Simplicity Collection: Combining seamless construction and crisp design.
  • Traditional Collection: A time-honored collection for exceptional value.

You can have the best laid-out bathroom design in the world, but that means nothing if you don’t furnish it properly per the clientele. The same goes for ADA compliance. You can plan every detail perfectly, but it counts for nothing without the specialty fixtures that meet those requirements.

ASI is dedicated not only to creating high-end products just for you but also to helping you put them where they need to go.

When choosing from different commercial bathroom hand dryers, consider the needs of your business and your customers. While it may seem unimportant, the bathroom in your brick-and-mortar business may actually reflect something of importance. It’s an opportunity to bolster your aesthetic as well as build trust with your customer. As we move into 2022, the Covid-19 pandemic is still on our minds. So, providing a safe space with easy-to-use products that allow for speed and efficiency is important. Your customers will take notice. The hand dryer you choose should tackle all of these considerations and make you feel confident that you’re providing the best option.

Top Considerations for Choosing a Hand Dryer

If you are choosing between various bathroom products for your commercial space, you have more to consider than you think. Your first thought may be just to choose the cheapest or easiest option. However, this can actually hurt your business over time. Choosing the product that seems cheapest now likely won’t result in the best product in the future. Instead of jumping the gun, consider the following aspects of hand dryer makes and models.

  • Speed
  • Efficiency
  • Noise level
  • Design
  • Cost

These five considerations represent all of the innovative product changes companies have made to their hand dryer product line. Choosing the least noisy might be the most important consideration for your type of business. On the other hand, you might want to choose a stylish product that reflects your business’s brand aesthetic. In this case, the design might matter most. Before making a final decision, consider these aspects of each product and determine which you should prioritize.

Types of Hand Dryers

There are a few types of hand dryers when you are vetting your options.

  • High-speed: Typically more energy efficient than traditional hand dryers, these use less energy by using less wattage and stay on for a shorter period of time. The high-speed hand dryer does tend to be louder than slower hand dryers.
  • Standard speed: This is the go-to choice for a regular speed hand dryer. It is a top pick for its basic effectiveness and long-lasting durability.
  • Low-energy: This type of hand dryer uses less energy than both options above and prioritizes low long-term costs for the business that chooses this option.
  • Anti-microbial: These hand dryers are generally more hygienic than your standard hand dryer. It may contain a HEPA filter or simply be a “touchless” application. These are a great choice for those with safety as a top priority.
  • Low-noise: These dryers are built to produce the least amount of noise possible. Businesses that require minimal sound typically choose this style.

Whichever type you choose, you should also remember to consult ADA standards. Remember that the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) requires that items that are in a passageway protrude 4 inches or less off the wall. Make sure to learn as much as you can about the requirements for ADA standards before making any decisions. The easiest way to meet this standard is to mount your dryer out of a passageway at the end of a wall, for example, near a sink or behind a partition.

Benefits of Hand Sanitizer Stations

There are many benefits to providing hand sanitizer stations to the people who frequent your public space.

#1: Prevent The Spread of Infection

Simply put, placing hand sanitizer stations around your business stops the spread of infection. Placing them near frequently used and high-traffic areas, such as the restroom and entrance doors, will effectively reduce the spread of germs.

#2: Improve Job Safety

Your staff plays an important role in maintaining the safety and well-being of your customers and each other. Providing easy-to-use stations as part of your post-pandemic plan helps to stop the spread of germs and illness.

#3: Show Employees and Customers You Care

With both your staff and your customers using hand sanitizer, you can be sure that your brick-and-mortar location is clean and safe. Additionally, they’ll appreciate that you put the thought into providing them a safe space to work and enjoy themselves.

The Research Behind Cleanliness in 2022

The research behind germs tells us that restrooms are one of the top locations for viruses, bacteria, and other microorganisms to spread. Because surfaces in restrooms are regularly exposed to microorganisms, they are one of the most important places to provide hygienic solutions to customers. In fact, one study shows us that the availability and usability of hand sanitizer stations make all the difference. This study, by Infection Prevention and Epidemiology at Bronson Methodist Hospital, tells us that “the total usability score (P = .0046), visibility (P = .003), and accessibility of the sanitizer… were statistically associated with higher observed compliance rates.”

In other words, making hand sanitizer dispensers more visible, easily usable, and accessible leads to a cleaner, more hygienic space.

If that’s not enough proof of the importance of providing these resources to your customers, there is more. According to Allied Market Research, the demand for these dispensers in public places has risen dramatically. “In 2020, the automatic segment dominated the hand sanitizer dispenser market. This was attributed to a rise in demand for hand disinfectant units due to the outbreak COVID-19. Furthermore, consumer inclination toward health & wellness and product innovation…”

By taking an active part in your customers’ health and wellbeing, you are sure to retain your regulars and garner even more trust within your community as a business that cares for its patrons.

Which Hand Sanitizer Stations Should I Buy?

As we move on from the worldwide pandemic of the past few years, customers demand more. In fact, bathroom products that prioritize efficiency and ease of use are most in demand. Specifically, many customers are looking for touchless products to ensure their health and safety. Here are a few great options from American Specialties, Inc.

Purchasing a commercial bathroom mirror isn’t as simple as choosing and moving along. There are a few considerations that come to mind. Owners and managers should remember that the bathroom in their brick-and-mortar public space actually reflects an opportunity for their business. The bathroom should match the business’s aesthetic, as well as provide a clean and functional space. That said, the commercial bathroom mirror you choose should reflect your customer’s needs. Consider size and type of mirror, as not all products are created equal. Which products are right for your business? Learn more below.

Commercial bathroom mirror types

There are two basic categories of commercial glass mirrors: framed or frameless glass.

Both are what most people recognize as standard mirrors. One type, as the name implies, is framed with a unique edge while the other type is not. Generally speaking, most businesses use framed mirrors are standalone pieces. On the other hand, frameless mirrors can be part of a bigger project, such as a mirrored accent wall. There are also plenty of colors and types of glass within these categories to choose from, each serving different purposes.

In design, framed or frameless glass mirrors are most often found in:

  • Office spaces, waiting areas, and restrooms
  • Hotels and other hospitality businesses
  • Beauty salons and spas
  • Dressing rooms
  • Gyms or fitness centers
  • Bars and restaurants
  • Reception and event centers

What is the perfect size for a commercial mirror?

Commercial bathroom mirrors can be made to any size and shape that your space requires. However, you should remember that the size you choose plays a role in the overall cost.

In general, you should use glass sheets that stay within industry standards. The most common stock mirror sheet sizes are 72″ x 100″ and 72″ x 120″.

Projects using glass sheets that exceed standard sizes make it much more difficult. For this type of project, you’ll need to find a glass fabricator. You should note that it costs more for mirror fabrication. This is due to the fact that the fabricator must:

  • Apply a safety backing. (A polypropylene film on the back of a mirror sheet that keeps the pane intact should it break.)
  • Install a J-channel. (A hardware accessory that hangs frameless wall-mounted mirrors.)

Overall, choosing a commercial bathroom mirror that is a standard size helps you minimize production costs and save time.

Tips for choosing a mirror for your project

Below are a few tips to ensure you choose the right size and type of mirror for your project.

  • In general, a mirror’s size should make sense for its intended use. Bathroom and vanity mirrors should be taller and larger because people use them to see their entire reflections.
  • Choose a large, frameless mirror when you want your mirror to blend in with the rest of your space. Because of its size, eyes are drawn to the other design elements in a room, rather than the mirror itself.
  • If you want your bathroom to feel bigger and brighter, large clear mirrors allow for plenty of light reflection. They also give the illusion of more space.
  • Use smaller mirrors primarily for accent pieces. In some cases, when you hang a small mirror by itself on a large wall, it looks out of place. You can use these mirrors as details in your aesthetic, rather than for their larger function.
  • Remember that when you hang a mirror above furniture, it should not be wider than the piece itself.

When dreaming up a hotel bathroom, typically luxury is the first thing to come to mind. Open spaces, large showers, new and sleek appliances abound. In sum, as a guest, the hotel’s facilities should make you feel more than comfortable. In some instances, a bold, modern design matches the hotel’s funky and new-age aesthetic. At other locations, the hotel bathroom accessories are simple and streamlined and reflect the clean lines and airy space provided by the rest of the property. Either way, a hotel’s bathrooms are an opportunity to reflect luxury, comfort, and a hotel’s overall aesthetic. Another important detail to consider, however, is the safety and sanitation of these public spaces. Choosing the right hotel bathroom accessories ensures the safety and wellness of the guests.

The Secret to Great Hotel Bathroom Design

The secret to designing a fabulous hotel bathroom? Consider balance above all else. As mentioned, there are so many factors that go into designing a beautiful and functional bathroom layout. From design aesthetic to functionality, as well as ease of use for the guest and maintaining a reasonable budget, the designer has to find a perfect balance.

On this laundry list of necessary considerations, the health and safety of the guests should be paramount. Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, guests are more worried about their own health and safety in public places than ever before. In fact, according to Hotel Management, “nearly eight in 10 Americans drastically increased their handwashing frequency from six to 15 times per day. As a result, hospitality properties should find ways to marry sustainable practices with increased cleaning and hygiene measures to meet travelers’ new away-from-home expectations.” As we move into a post-pandemic world, these facts should stay top of mind for every hotel designer looking to build an oasis for their guests.

Which Products to Consider

If cleanliness and aesthetics are equally important, choosing products that reflect that notion is key. To achieve this aforementioned balance of details, find hotel bathroom accessories that do more for less while adding a touch of luxury to the space. Following some established “best practices” can help you solidify your choices. In the same article, Hotel Management declares that “There are several best practices that properties can implement to support clean, sustainable restrooms. For example, consider adding touch-free options—sink faucets and toilet handles can have 17,976 and 107 germs per 10 square centimeters, respectively. There are also water-saving options like low-flow faucets and water-efficient toilets and automatic paper towel dispensers that help reduce waste.”

The following top-of-the-line hotel bathroom accessories support these best practices and will help you to achieve the ultimate balance between functionality and design, safety, and luxury.

Matte Black Automated and EZ Fill Products

This collection provides a chic alternative for modern washrooms. Carefully curated to be versatile and powder coated for added durability, these accessories are ready to make a statement in any setting. The Covid-19 pandemic led to many changes in the way we live our private and public lives. Maintaining a feeling of safety and wellbeing during these times is crucial. In public spaces especially, we are looking for solutions that ensure this feeling. Additionally, we want to continue to live our lives the way we did before. As a result, companies are being tasked with providing safe spaces to retain their customer base. This is no small task for brick-and-mortar businesses that see customers every single day. While you want the entire facility is following safe practices, the restroom is a good place to start. Touchless products, such as commercial paper towel dispensers, can help to generate a feeling of safety and bring your customers back day after day.

Why Try Touchless Restroom Accessories in 2022?

It may seem to some people that the Covid-19 pandemic is “winding down.” For those people, as of early 2022, they may not be as concerned with safety. As a citizen and a civilian, it is any person’s right to make that decision for themselves. However, as a business owner or manager, your customer’s safety should remain of the highest importance. While each individual person has his or her own unique stance on the situation, businesses must continue to provide environments where any and all people of varying opinions are comfortable in the space.

According to new metrics released by the CDC, about 70% of the U.S. population lives in a place where they no longer need to wear a mask to protect themselves and others. However, many of these people are still choosing to wear them out of an abundance of caution during this transitional period. Additionally, Dr. Lisa Maragakis, senior director of infection prevention at the Johns Hopkins Health System, believes that “We need to understand and take care of the people who are most vulnerable among us…” All of this information points to the fact that considering the safety and wellbeing of our customers is still paramount to finding success in today’s climate.

Touchless Commercial Paper Towel Dispensers for Every Aesthetic

To make sure your company is among the businesses promoting safety and wellness, consider your public restroom. You should take every aspect of the space into account to maximize its full potential.

  • Make sure you’ve designed a layout that maximizes space. This allows people to easily enter and leave the space without coming into too close of contact with others.
  • Perform regular maintenance to the space is clean and in working order. This will help people move more easily and quickly.
  • Install equipment that creates efficiencies. Automated and touchless fitting are great options.

When it comes to commercial paper towel dispensers, the following options might suit your business’s style and aesthetic while also providing the benefits of a touchless product.

TRADITIONAL™ AUTOMATIC ROLL PAPER TOWEL DISPENSER

Battery-operated and surface-mounted, this paper towel dispenser is stainless steel and has stub roll capability for continuous dispensing.

SIMPLICITY™ AUTOMATIC ROLL TOWEL DISPENSER

When it comes to building a new commercial washroom, there are many decisions to make. After you have found a builder and designed the layout, choosing the right products and materials is key. Businesses should make sure to think clearly and make smart decisions around restroom design. It’s important because many customers will consider this resource as a part of the company’s overall aesthetic. In fact, many customers will choose not to frequent a certain business if the bathroom and washroom accessories are not up to certain standards. To make sure you are communicating your business’s brand in the best way possible, try incorporating some of the latest trends. We have broken down four of the top restroom design trends in 2022 below.

#1: Less is more.

The top trend of 2022? Minimalism. Modern businesses want to display a clean, simple look in every aspect of their brand. In its most basic definition, minimalism is about designers expressing only the most essential and necessary elements of a product or subject. They do this by getting rid of any excess and, therefore, unnecessary components and features.

Mainstays of this style include details like:

  • Simplicity in design to serve the overall function
  • Clean lines and compositions
  • Bright and natural lighting
  • Lighter and more neutral colors

At ASI, we offer the Simplicity collection, which combines seamless construction and crisp design lines, this elegant collection provides strength, comfort, beauty, and durability.

#2: Moody black accents.

If simplicity is the overarching theme of the year, then it makes sense that neutral colors should follow. As the King of a neutral color palette, the color black packs a bigger punch. The color creates a big impact, adding dimension to neutral spaces as well as a modern edge.

According to an interview with Homes & Gardens, Athina Bluff, Founder & Senior Designer at Topology Interiors, says: “Black is most definitely back and we love it. It’s versatile, timeless, and classic and could be likened to being the little black dress of interiors.” Additionally, Kerrie Kelly and National Kitchen & Bath Association say “…the focus on Millennials means the design industry can expect to see more organic features and natural finishes with an emphasis on warm hues, wood tones, more matte and brushed finishes, and plenty of texture and nubbiness, all to create a home that supports a chosen lifestyle.”

At ASI, we offer the Matte Black collection, which provides a chic alternative for modern washrooms. Versatile and powder-coated for added durability, these accessories are ready to make a sophisticated statement in any setting.

#3: The easier, the better.

Another trend that follows the line of simplicity is “the easier, the better.” Ease of use is crucial for so many people in 2022. According to the same Ms. Kelly and the National Kitchen & Bath Association, touchless products, such as kitchen appliances and washroom accessories, are top of mind.

“Technology, too, will be a major player. In the kitchen, that means touchless fixtures, app-controlled appliances, voice-activated lighting, and recycling storage. In the bath, the trends are toward larger showers (and even removing tubs), shower “experiences” drawn from spa-at-home and staycation concepts, sustainability and connected products such as water-temperature controls and entertainment.”

At ASI, we offer automated and touchless washroom accessories to follow this trend and make usability as easy as possible.

#4: Industrial tones at home

Finally, for a sleek bold look, try to incorporate industrial accents. In fact, rustic industrial design is having a huge moment right now thanks to HGTV’s Chip and Joanna Gaines. This style, which blends rustic wooden accents with stainless steel and sleek colors and accents, is the best of both worlds.

At ASI, we offer stainless steel accessories that fit right in with this unique trend in 2022. Engineered for high-profile settings, this collection adds elegance, durability, and exceptional functionality to any washroom without becoming the focal point.

When installing a restroom for public use in your commercial building, there are many details to consider. First and foremost, you should look into the regulations set in place by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This set of rules ensures the safety and wellbeing of all differently-abled customers who will use the space. There are many of which you should be aware of, however, a reputable builder will be aware of them and make sure to follow them as he or she builds your space. However, to make sure everything is up to code, it can help to educate yourself a little on these requirements so you can guarantee your public restroom has the necessary products and spacing. Products, such as grab bars for restrooms, and certain spacing are mandatory. Read on to learn more.

What is an ADA-compliant bathroom?

The main requirement for an ADA-compliant bathroom is accessibility. For those who have difficulty moving around tight spaces, The Americans with Disabilities Act is a civil rights law that protects the equal rights of persons with disabilities. As a result, any facility that serves the general public is required to comply. Additionally, because the ADA also concerns itself with the rights of persons with disabilities with regards to their employment, employee restrooms must also be ADA compliant. First, you should consider building codes, followed by ADA requirements. For example, one of the ADA’s demands is a toilet stall for each gender. However, ADA guidelines are not exclusive to the number of toilets or the measurements of the finished floor and toe clearance.

Grab Bars for Restrooms: ADA Requirements

There are different requirements for different applications. For instance, if you are building a bathroom with a shower stall, you will need to follow specific directions to ensure shower safety. So, if you are simply building toilet stalls, there are varying rules to follow. The varied layouts include:

  • Grabs bars in a toilet stall
  • Grab bars in a shower stall
    • Transfer Type compartments
    • Standard Roll-in compartments
    • Alternate Roll-in compartments
  • Grab bars in bathtubs with permanent seats
  • Grab bars in bathtubs without permanent seats

Importantly, each of these configurations has a different set of requirements from the ADA. We will break them down for you below.

Grab Bars in Toilet Stall

From the Side Wall: The side wall grab bar shall be 42 inches (1065 mm) long minimum, located 12 inches (305 mm) maximum from the rear wall and extending 54 inches (1370 mm) minimum from the rear wall.

From the Rear Wall: The rear wall grab bar shall be 36 inches (915 mm) long minimum and extend from the centerline of the water closet 12 inches (305 mm) minimum on one side and 24 inches (610 mm) minimum on the other side.

EXCEPTIONS: 1. The rear grab bar shall be permitted to be 24 inches (610 mm) long minimum, centered on the water closet, where wall space does not permit a length of 36 inches (915 mm) minimum due to the location of a recessed fixture adjacent to the water closet.

Grab Bars in Shower Stall

Transfer Type Shower Compartments

First, transfer-type shower compartments shall be 36 inches (915 mm) by 36 inches (915 mm). They should have clear inside dimensions measured at the center points of opposing sides. Also, they should have a 36 inch (915 mm) wide minimum entry on the face of the shower compartment. Clearance of 36 inches (915 mm) wide minimum by 48 inches (1220 mm) long minimum measured from the control wall shall be provided.

So, transfer-type compartments, grab bars shall be provided across the control wall and back wall to a point 18 inches (455 mm) from the control wall.

When designing and building an ADA compliant bathroom, businesses need to take ADA requirements into account. The ADA, otherwise known as the American Disabilities Act, lays out certain standards for accessible design. In other words, there are specific guidelines that public organizations need to follow. To best serve every potential customer, following the rules and regulations is crucial.

Becoming ADA compliant is a proactive effort that makes all organizations as inclusive as possible. This doesn’t just serve the community but also acts to serve the businesses abiding by these rules. By becoming accessible to all people, organizations can grow. If you want to learn more about ADA compliance standards for restrooms, then keep reading.

What is ADA compliance?

As mentioned, ADA compliance is short for the Americans with Disabilities Act Standards for Accessible Design. ADA compliance is the civil law that guarantees equal opportunity for disabled individuals in the public spheres of accommodation. In short, what that means is that the restroom space must be entirely accessible to all people with disabilities.

How To Know if Your Space Follows ADA Compliance Rules

The best way to check if you have an ADA compliant bathroom is to measure. Of course, there are other ways to ensure compliance, but the most basic and least expensive way is simply to find a tape measure. You’ll have to conduct a walkthrough of your space, take measurements, and assess if any changes need to be made.

Single-user restroom

According to the update made in 2010 to the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines, the guidelines for a single-user restroom are as follows.

  • There must be 30-inch by 48-inch access to the sink. The door cannot swing into this rectangle of space. The measurement starts from the point where a person has 9-inch vertical clearance for their feet and 27-inch vertical clearance for their knees.
  • The centerline of the toilet must be between 16 and 18 inches from the sidewall.
  • There must be a clear circle of at least 60 inches around the sidewall and 56 inches from the rear wall to allow a wheelchair to turn. Note again that the door cannot swing into the minimum required area for wheelchair-accessible toilet compartments.
  • The toilet seat height must be between 17-19 inches.

Multi-user restroom

For multi-user restrooms, the ADA compliance guidelines follow the same principles but include additional elements. These include the following.

  • If the approach is to the latch side of the compartment door, the clearance between the door side of the compartment and any obstruction shall be 42 inches minimum. ANSI A117.1 604.9.3 and ADAAG 4.17.5.
  • The width of a wheelchair-accessible compartment must be 60 inches.
  • If the water closet is floor-mounted, the depth of the compartment must be 59 inches.
  • If the water closet is wall-mounted, the depth of the compartment is required to be 56 inches.
  • Toilet rooms, like other accessible and usable spaces, must provide a 60-inch turning diameter or alternate T-turn somewhere in the room.

3 Products to Help Build an ADA Compliant Bathroom

The following three products are very important when choosing restroom fittings for an ADA-compliant bathroom.

  1. Grab Bars: All ASI grab bars are made in compliance with ADA guidelines for strength requirements. Various configurations feature satin finish 18 gauge type 304 stainless steel (peened or smooth). These single structure units are heliarc-welded, and mandrel bending ensures uniform bar diameters.
  2. Shower & Tub Accessories: ASI provides a full range of shower and tub accessories that show attention to detail to address the safety and comfort needs of users. In fact, all items—including shower seats and benches, tub seats, soap dishes, and shower curtain rods—are designed to ensure secure installation and easy use.
  3. Accessible Toilets & Sinks: Each of these accessories needs to be a certain size and have a certain amount of space surrounding it to make it ADA accessible. For help, speak to someone at ASI today who can talk you through which options might work for your space.

When it comes to public bathroom accessories, hand towels vs. hand dryers is a common debate. Often, when designing a commercial restroom, decisions about these types of bathroom fittings are made quickly. Without deeper consideration, the opportunity to maximize space and create efficiencies disappears. There are several bathroom accessories, such as hand sanitizer dispensers, hand towel dispensers, and automated hand dryers, to choose from. When it comes to making the best choice for your space, consider all of the benefits associated with each product.

What Does the Science Say?

The research behind germs tells us that viruses, bacteria, and other microorganisms naturally spread in restrooms, no matter the hand drying option. Unfortunately, the air and surfaces in restrooms are regularly exposed to microorganisms, as they are in any space in which people circulate. So, the only way to combat this fact and ensure the safety and wellbeing of every user is to provide as hygienic a space as possible. This is done by maximizing every potential aspect. You can do this by:

  • Designing a layout that maximizes your space. The flow of the space should ensure that guests move quickly and easily, with as little contact as possible with the other guests.
  • Installing equipment that creates efficiencies. With an abundance of choices, make sure to choose equipment that doubles down on efficiency. Automated and touchless fittings are great options. As are dispensers that let maintenance know when a change or refill is needed.
  • Ensuring regular maintenance. Maintenance in a public restroom is paramount to every other effort when it comes to the health of your guests. Cleanliness will ensure that your guests feel safe in the space and leave without issue.

Hand Towels & Dispensers

There are pros and cons to choosing hand towels for a commercial restroom. Several of the benefits of hand towels are especially important during the Coronavirus pandemic. Therefore, restroom users need to safeguard themselves in every way possible, as they touch commonly touched door handles, faucets, buttons, and other bathroom fittings.

Hand towels:

  • Keep a tangible barrier between hands and restroom surfaces.
  • Are the favored method by most public restroom users.
  • Produce increased paper waste.
  • Often yield extra costs.
  • Require more regularly scheduled maintenance.

Hand Dryers

The pros and cons of hand dryers are different. Dryers, on the other hand, have the benefit of being completely touchless. This is particularly important in the germ-averse society of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Hand dryers:

  • Can be designed with more modern technology.
  • Are often touchless and automated.
  • Are more sustainable and economical than paper towel usage.
  • Can be quite loud and disruptive.
  • Have the common perception that they blow dirty restroom air on users’ hands and spread germs.

Another big bonus of using hand dryers is that manufacturers are always innovating. As a result, they design hand dryers with hygiene-improving elements, such as HEPA filters, antimicrobial materials, etc. In other words, these kinds of advancements will inevitably continue to improve and create an even safer and more beneficial product.

ASI restroom accessories to consider

ASI designs public bathroom accessories to suit every layout and aesthetic. Keeping efficiency and ease of use in mind, our different product lines offer unique benefits to both the user and the installer.

EZ Fill Dispensing Systems

These products feature a multi-feed system with easy refill technology, a universal remote, and a range of sizes for all commercial restroom needs.

Baby Changing Stations

These stations are ADA-compliant, easy to install, durable, and sanitary.

Hospitality Accessories

In a hospitality setting, aesthetics are just as important as functionality. So, this line of accessories prioritizes both, utilizing stainless steel and featuring a classic, minimalist design.

Did you know that design is of the utmost importance for a public restroom? As a guest of the available facilities at your local grocery store, restaurant, or shop, maybe the idea of bathroom design never occurred to you. However, as a business owner, consider building well-laid plans for your public space. It could make or break the opinion of your prospective customers. Additionally, as we work our way through the era of Covid-19, this principle is doubly important. So, people want to feel safe in these required public spaces, knowing they can maintain social distance and are in a hygienic restroom. To provide this amenity, touchless public toilet accessories are a no-brainer.

Why should business owners choose touchless public restroom accessories?

Safety and health are currently top-of-mind for every single person on the planet. It’s no longer an afterthought to simply walk into the facilities, use them, and walk out. In fact, most people are thinking about the Covid-19 pandemic and doing everything they can to distance themselves from opportunities to catch the disease. Unfortunately, as a necessary resource that is made available to the masses, a public restroom presents a lot of opportunities for contamination.

In fact, this pandemic has revealed several issues pertaining to the public toilet. From Bloomberg, we have learned that “The state of public restrooms in the U.S. is pretty deplorable, with certain exceptions,” says Steven Soifer, president and co-founder of the American Restroom Association. “Public restrooms are a half-assed job. This is a public health concern, especially with Covid. It’s been a mess.”

It all boils down to two important considerations for business owners. First, it’s crucial to create a clean and safe environment that provides peace of mind to customers. Second, executing on the first consideration with as much efficiency as possible. This is where touchless public toilet accessories come into the conversation.

Top designs for touchless public toilet products

It’s simple, really. Touchless restroom products offer up less opportunity for the spread of germs by eliminating contact points. These products also make it easier for users to thoroughly wash their hands without making too much of a mess for the next person. Finally, automating the process makes sure that washroom occupants move efficiently, minimizing the amount of time they spend in the space. As we now know, washing your hands is the simplest hygienic habit, which can diminish the spread of Covid-19.

Consider a few of the following products, including soap dispensers, hand dryers, towel roll dispensers, and hand sanitizer dispensers.

EZ Fill™ Stand-alone Foam Soap Dispenser

TURBO-Pro™  High-Speed ADA Hand Dryer

PIATTO™ Automatic Roll Dispenser

ROVAL™ Automatic Hand Sanitizer Dispenser

Using the right commercial washroom equipment for your public restroom opens up a world of design possibilities. First and foremost, you should consider the layout and usability of the space. Second, you should find the right products to ensure that you are maximizing the potential available to you and your customers. In this era of Covid-19, getting guests in and out of the washroom quickly and efficiently is crucial. In short, no one wants to spend more time in close quarters with strangers than is absolutely necessary. As a result, make sure to invest in equipment that achieves four important objectives: maximize potential, streamline efficiency, please your guests, and be kind to the bottom line.

#1: Choose Equipment that Maximizes Your Space

One of the first objectives you should consider when designing a streamlined washroom is the space available to you. It may seem obvious, but ensuring that you utilize every inch in a useful way can ultimately make or break your design. A smart, innovative washroom layout can be directly linked to achieving the other objectives listed below. So, it’s a smart move to start here.

Remember that there are washroom design professionals who can help you make the best possible decisions for the restroom. They can assess your current space and design an entire layout to give you the best possible outcome.

#2: Make It Quick and Easy for Your Guests

Simply put, your guests are the reason why all of these decisions matter. It may be surprising to note, but the way your commercial washroom looks can make or break a guest experience. According to a survey, 50 percent of people who encounter a dirty restroom would discuss it with friends and family. In today’s world, where opinions and reviews are highly visible online, guests make their feelings known to a very wide audience. These types of reviews can cost a business potential customers.

In addition, with Covid-19 concerns still very prevalent, choosing commercial washroom equipment that makes the process quick and simple for everyone should be top-of-mind. Touchless and automated products have transitioned from “nice-to-have” to “must-have” when it comes to streamlining your washroom design.

#3: Look for Products that Streamline Efficiencies

Remember that while you’re installing this bathroom to please your guests, you should also look for ways to make your life a little easier, too. In other words, consider long-term maintenance requirements. Luckily, modern commercial washroom equipment is designed to make maintenance and cleanliness much easier to achieve. Innovation has led to many design changes that can take the headache out of keeping the space spotless, appealing, and in line with the rest of your establishment’s aesthetic.

Specifically, look for products that follow that mold. For example, some soap dispensers can now let the facilities manager know when new soap is needed. Additionally, multi-feed soap dispensing models are specially designed to be easier to fill, which is a time-saver for maintenance staff. Newer handwashing systems also feature larger soap dispensers, which minimizes the number of refills required. Finally, products come in different shapes, designs, and colors now. Choose ones that match your business aesthetic to provide a clean look throughout the entire premises.

#4: Ensure An Economical Decision for Your Business

Find products that not only save you money upfront but ones that save time and money while they are in use and installed. As we’ve mentioned, efficiency is key. Products that offer more than one benefit to you and the user should be at the top of your list.

Finally, there are many options when it comes to choosing a provider for your commercial bathroom products. They are, however, not all created equally. Consider the resources made available to you by the provider.

  • Does the company simply distribute the products? Or, do they design, engineer, and manufacture them, as well?
  • Are there other additional customer resources that the company offers?
  • What kind of service can be expected?
  • What is the history of the company in the industry?

All the answers to these questions can make a difference to your bottom line. As they say, time is money. The more resources your provider offers to streamline your experience, the better results you can expect.

Covid-19 has changed so many aspects of everyday life and businesses are not exempt. In this new environment, people need to feel the companies they are engaging with are keeping up with the times. More than ever, consumers want to know that the businesses they frequent are ensuring the health and safety of their patrons. As a result, the upkeep of public spaces is top of mind for many businesses. Specifically, for those brick-and-mortar locations looking to bring people back to their premises, the cleanliness of the public bathrooms available matters. To make sure that your business is keeping up with the latest demands, try the following three trends. They should help you choose commercial washroom fittings and design a safe space for your customers to use.

touchless commercial washroom fittings

#1: Touchless Washroom Fittings

According to PM magazine, 84% of Americans want touchless fixtures installed in public restrooms so they can avoid touching levers, handles, buttons, and other surfaces that numbers of other people are touching. While touchless commercial washroom fittings are not exactly new to the market, the demand for them has certainly increased. In a more hygienic world, these elements represent a simple solution to a universal concern.

Try: AUTOMATIC LIQUID SOAP AND GEL HAND SANITIZER DISPENSER – 27 OZ. – STAINLESS STEEL – SURFACE OR STAND MOUNTED

commercial washroom handwashing system

#2: All-in-one Handwashing Systems

Some of the newest handwashing models on the market are all-inclusive. They are designed with all touchless handwashing elements, including faucet, soap, and dryer, integrated into the fixture. This makes handwashing more accessible and hygienic for each user. With all the necessary elements centralized, it eliminates the need for users to move around with wet hands. Removing the trails of water and soap on the sinks and floor in the restroom enhances general safety from slip-and-falls in the space, as well as makes the facilities look cleaner and less sloppy.

Try: VELARE™ BTM SYSTEM – STAINLESS STEEL CABINET WITH FRAMELESS MIRROR, LIQUID SOAP DISPENSER AND HIGH-SPEED HAND DRYER (110-120V)

top fill commerical washroom soap dispenser

#3: Multi-feed Soap Systems

Commercial washroom trends in 2021 are not only focusing on satisfying the user but the facilities manager, as well. By making maintenance more efficient, we can save time and money. Often, frequent filling of the soap dispenser is a significant maintenance pain point. Make maintenance more efficient with new models of soap dispensers that let the facilities manager know when new soap is needed. Additionally, multi-feed models are specially designed to be easier to fill, which is a time-saver for maintenance staff. Finally, newer handwashing systems also feature larger soap dispensers to cut down on the number of refills required.

Try: TOP FILL, MULTI-FEED FOAM SOAP DISPENSERS

Why Your Choice For Commercial Washroom Fittings Matters

It may seem like your public restroom design makes no difference to your bottom line. However, new research shows the opposite to be true. In fact, consumers increasingly evaluate businesses based on the condition and appearance of restrooms. In some cases, it can even influence their spending behaviors. According to a public survey, 69% of consumers said that experiencing clean restrooms in businesses actually increases their spending. It may come as no surprise then that almost 75% of consumers make it a point to visit a business because they know it has nice restrooms.

According to the same survey, there is an unfortunate consequence to be suffered from unclean restrooms. Research shows that dirty or disorganized public restrooms generate negative impressions of overall facilities. After seeing a neglected public restroom, close to 60% of Americans will leave a business immediately or are unlikely to return.

Over the past two years, the Covid-19 virus has changed the patterns of everyday life. While the virus does present obstacles to our regular routines, it also leaves room for reinvention and growth. It represents an opportunity to rethink the way we, as individuals and business owners, approach the tasks at hand. We must now take into account the different ways that we will function in public space. Additionally, we should consider what our clients and customers will need to feel safe in this new climate, as well.

As the world returns to activities in public spaces, the use of public restrooms is inevitable. This means we need to reconsider the best ways to make it a safe environment. A vigilant routine of cleaning and disinfecting is the best way to prevent spreading germs. However, there are tools at our disposal to bolster these efforts. Installing the right commercial bathroom accessories can improve overall sanitation and keep occupants safe.

Touchless Soap Dispensers

Touchless soap dispensers are now a staple tool in public restrooms. Especially during this pandemic, they help to eliminate contact points in the washroom. These products also make it easier for users to thoroughly wash their hands. Finally, automating the process makes sure that washroom occupants move quickly and efficiently, minimizing the amount of time spent in this public space. Washing your hands represents the simplest hygienic habit and encouraging it is a great way to cut down on the spread of Covid-19.

EZ Fill™ Stand-alone Foam Soap Dispenser

Similar to touchless soap dispenses, automatic hand dryers also eliminate contact points within a restroom. In addition, these touchless commercial bathroom accessories cut down the users’ time spent in the restroom.

At each activation, the unit feeds out a length of towel selected by the owner who sets the length, delay, and paper saver switches.

hand sanitizer dispenserHand Sanitizer Dispensers

As people are now in more of a hurry to get in and out of crowded public spaces, hand sanitizer has become an easy favorite. It is a quick and efficient solution for cleaning your hands in a hurry. Public restrooms that feature automated, touchless hand sanitizer dispensers create an even more streamlined experience for the occupants.

ROVAL™ Automatic Hand Sanitizer Dispenser

A popular product during Covid-19, this dispenser can dispense soap or hand sanitizer in both foam and liquid formats. It can be surface- or stand-mounted. The renovation of the Yonkers office is one of the most recent developments in a string of facility and equipment upgrades by ASI Group worldwide. Over the last couple years, several acquisitions have been made of companies within the Division 10 industry in Canada and Australia, numerous facilities in Illinois, Georgia and Canada have been purchased and renovated, as well as existing facility construction in various locations. ASI Group attributes its success to reinvesting profits back into the family of companies to support growth and leadership.

American Specialties Introduces TRI-Umph™ Hand Dryer

New, High-Speed Unit Puts the “UMPH” in Hand Drying

YONKERS, NY/September 4, 2012 – American Specialties, Inc. (ASI) has introduced the TRI-Umph™ automatic high-speed hand dryer, a super-hygienic, fast-drying and competitively priced option for commercial washrooms. The new hand dryer is part of ASI’s Roval™ Collection that features clean lines and a strong curved design.

The TRI-Umph™ hand dryer’s comfortable, ergonomic design is user-friendly, allowing users to dry their hands in a natural position without water splash-back or water falling to the floor and creating a hazard. Its patented three-air-outlet design surrounds hands with a more consistent air speed, resulting in an average drying time of 12 seconds. An innovative ceramic pad aids in the absorption and evaporation of water, eliminating any pooling and potential bacteria growth. Any water that does not dissipate is channeled into a water tray, instead of dripping onto the floor. In general, the TRI-Umph™ hand dryer is suitable for any application, particularly those with high traffic or where water management, germ protection or energy savings are critical. This can include: schools, government buildings, rest stops, stadiums, movie theatres, restaurants, high-profile hotels, office buildings and the like.

The new hand dryer is outfitted with a super filter system comprised of three layers of filters – HEPA, carbon (for odor management) and anti-microbial. These filters eliminate more than 99% of airborne bacteria and particles as small as 0.3 microns. An anti-microbial silver ion treatment added to the ABS cover provides an additional layer of germ protection. These two features combined with the fact that water does not collect on the unit make the TRI-Umph™ hand dryer one of the most hygienic hand dryers on the market.

Facility managers have the option to use heated air with the flip of an internal switch, and can also adjust the unit’s air speed, resulting in reduced sound and energy use. The TRI-Umph™ hand dryer is available in 110/120V, 208/240V and 227V. The latter two are the ideal voltage for schools, making this one of the only products on the market with this feature.

The new hand dryer is both easy to maintain and very secure. The filter can be easily replaced by opening the drawer with a security “L” key. In addition, the unit’s strong mounting plate is designed for high- use environments.

The TRI-Umph™ hand dryer is available, along with ASI’s other products, as a Building Information Modeling (BIM) object, which can be downloaded at no charge for easy placement in building plans and designs (visit www.americanspecialties.com or www.arcat.com. It is a “green” product and can be run for under $20 with the heater off or $31 with the heater on (120V unit – using average National electricity costs).  This is a significant savings over other dryers in its class.

GEM Celebrates 100 Years.

Political and business dignitaries, including Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle, joined with employees and company officials of GEM to celebrate its 100th anniversary Tuesday at the Global Partitions plant in Stephens County.

Company President Peter Rolla said a century after the company first started, it remains very much alive and thriving.

“Since our beginnings in 1911 in Gardner, Massachusetts, we have been through our ups and downs like any business,” said Rolla. “We have manufactured products from fanhouses to toolboxes, crib springs, casket springs, torpedo fins, toilet partitions, and now even ice skating rinks. People tell me manufacturing in the United States is dying. I tell them they have not been to Toccoa, Georgia.”

Rolla said the company appreciates the support of Toccoa and Stephens County.

He said none of this though would be possible without the company’s employees.

“While my family can provide capital and leadership, it is the people of Toccoa and the GEM family who have allowed GEM, through their hard work, to reach this 100-year mark,” said Rolla. “It is they who make a quality product every day. It is they who understand what it means to keep our customers satisfied with on-time deliveries. It is they who understand that they must be productive to compete in a world economy.”

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Cagle commended the company for its foresight.

“I think about a company that has been there for 100 years and how you have had to re-invent yourself and anticipate what the market is going to look like before it actually develops and this is a company that has been able to do that,” said Cagle.

GEM employs 250 people currently at three plants in Stephens County. Those plants are GEM Industries, GEM Plastics, and Global Partitions.

Recently, the company announced 35 jobs that would be added to the Global plant.

Rolla said however, more jobs are coming.

“I am pleased to tell you today that we also will expand our plastic extrusion business and we will be putting on an addition to the Meadowbrook building, adding the new extrusion line, which will result in approximately 15 new jobs,” he said.

Toccoa Mayor Janice English said the expansion is good news, adding that GEM means a lot to the area.

“We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the faith and trust you have put in us here and our employees here have shown you that this is the place for you to be,” said English.

50th District State Senator Jim Butterworth, 28th District State Representative Michael Harden, Stephens County Development Authority Chairman Cam Parker, and representatives for Senator Johnny Isakson and Representative Paul Broun also spoke at the event. In addition, Stephens County Development Authority Executive Director Tim Martin presented a proclamation for GEM on behalf of the Stephens County Commission.
